TEJEDA GOES YARD TWICE AS REVS CAP WINNINGEST ROAD TRIP IN FRANCHISE HISTORY WITH SERIES SWEEP

(July 21, 2019 – New Britain, CT):  The York Revolution completed a 6-1 road trip with a fifth consecutive win, sewing up a series sweep of the New Britain Bees with a 10-7 victory on Sunday afternoon at New Britain Stadium.  The Revs improve to 8-2 to begin the second half, the best start to a second half in franchise history and tied for the best start to any half.  York returns home to open a six-game homestand with the first of three against the Sugar Land Skeeters on Monday night at PeoplesBank Park.

The game was one of three in the Atlantic League on Sunday that was shortened to seven innings due to excessive heat advisories.

Right-hander Sam Burton made the start for the Revs and allowed just an RBI double to right-center by Logan Moore in the second inning, working the opening two frames in his second outing since joining the team.

The Revs grabbed early command with five runs in the third inning to seize a 5-1 advantage.  Alvaro Rondon and Zach Sullivan started things with singles, and after a fouled bunt attempt, Justin Trapp swung away and cracked an RBI double to the gap in deep right-center to tie the score.  Henry Castillo smacked a two-run double down the right field line to give York the lead, and Carlos Franco added a two-run single off the fence in deep right-center as part of the outburst.

New Britain recouped a run in the bottom of the third when Rando Moreno scored on a two-out throwing error, but the unearned run was the only damage done to reliever Julio Perez (3-1) who earned his second win of the road trip.

The Bees crept closer in the fourth as Joe Poletsky kept the inning alive with a two-out infield single and Zach Collier connected on a two-run homer to right, drawing within 5-4.

The Revs had a seismic response in the fifth as Telvin Nash laced a one-out double to the gap in right-center and Isaias Tejeda crushed a two-run home run off the light tower in deep right-center, swelling the lead to 7-4.  Welington Dotel followed with an opposite field home run to right-center of his own two batters later, providing York with an 8-4 grip.

New Britain again pestered as Jared James legged out an RBI fielder’s choice on an attempted double play in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the lead to 8-5.

Josh Judy recorded the first two outs in the sixth and was ahead of Moreno 0-2 with just one runner on before losing the two-hole hitter to a walk.  A walk to Bijan Rademacher loaded the bases and a hit by pitch of Jason Rogers forced in a run as the Bees were threatening, down just 8-6.  Closer Jameson McGrane was called upon and won a lengthy battle with Jonathan Galvez, escaping the sixth on a fly out to right with the bases loaded, stranding the tying run at second and go-ahead run at first.

The Revs provided a pair of big insurance runs in the top of the seventh.  Tejeda clobbered his second home run of the game on a shot to left-center to lead things off.  Franco followed by drilling a double to left-center.  A Dotel ground out advanced Franco to third, allowing him to score on a single to right by Angelys Nina to go up 10-6.

Pinch-hitter Mike Carp homered to right with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but McGrane retired the other three batters, striking out Poletsky to end it and nail down his ninth save.

Notes: Revs manager Mark Mason was ejected in the top of the seventh; it was the ninth ejection of his Revs career and first since June 13, 2017.  Tejeda’s two-homer game is the third of his Revs career and second of the week.  Tejeda now has 10 home runs on the season, all in the last 14 games, while extending his season-best hitting streak to 12 games (includes nine homers on the streak).  The six-win road trip is the fifth in Revs history and first since August 2015; it is the first to occur in only seven games as the others were all eight games or longer.  York’s five-game road winning streak ties a franchise record for the second time in the past month; it previously had not been done since July 2014 and is the first time it’s been done twice in the same season.  The 8-2 start matches the 2011 first half for best start to a half in club history.  The Revs increase their division lead to 1.5 games over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs; it’s their largest first place lead since the end of the 2017 season (2.0 games).  York has won 17 of its last 20 overall and is 29-7 since June 10.  The Revs have homered in a club record 14 consecutive games with 29 homers on that streak.  York hit 17 home runs on the seven-game road trip.  Prior to Tejeda’s seventh-inning homer, each of the previous 10 long balls had gone to right field (seven opposite field homers by right-handed batters).  The Revs lead the league with 89 home runs on the season including 54 in 36 games since June 10.  Judy’s season-best 12-outing scoreless streak was snapped but the righty earned his team-leading eighth hold.  The Revs improve to 21-19 on the road, having won 16 of the last 19 away from home.  It is York’s second road sweep of the season marking the sixth time in franchise history the Revs have notched two road sweeps in a season.  It is York’s first ever sweep at New Britain.
