Game Notes »
(June 12, 2019 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution won for the third time in four nights, defeating the High Point Rockers 7-2 on Wednesday evening at PeoplesBank Park, securing a series victory in the five-game, four-day set.  The Revs will look to close it out with another victory on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Duke von Schamman got the call to make his fourth career Atlantic League start for York. The Revs right-hander faced the minimum in the first inning. Tyler Marincov slapped a two-out single but on an attempted steal, was thrown out on a strong throw from York backstop James Skelton to end the frame.

For the third time in four games, York scored multiple runs in the bottom of the first inning. Justin Trapp set the stage, drawing a one-out walk. Melky Mesa followed by blasting his third home run of the series over the Arch Nemesis in left to give the Revs an early 2-0 advantage.

Following a 1-2-3 inning from von Schamann in the second, York tacked on another run in the bottom half. Newly-acquired third baseman Carlos Franco drove a one-out double off of the Nemesis in left in his first Atlantic League at-bat to give York a runner in scoring position. After High Point starter Stephen Johnson recorded a fly out for the second out, Skelton lined an RBI single high off the Nemesis to plate Franco and extend the York lead to 3-0.

von Schamann worked his second consecutive 1-2-3 inning in the top of the third, but High Point scored its first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Tyler Ladendorf reached second base on a throwing error to start the inning. Myles Schroder singled into right field to give the Rockers runners on the corners with nobody out. von Schamann battled back to strike out Marincov to record the first out of the inning. Viosergy Rosa followed with a sac fly to center scoring Ladendorf from third and cutting the lead to 4-1.

After von Schamman worked a scoreless fifth inning, the Revs tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth by playing some small ball. Skelton led off the inning with a double down the right field line to set the table. Alvaro Rondon laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance Skelton to third. Trapp hit a sharp line drive to right to record the sacrifice fly and move the York lead to 4-1.

von Schamann was terrific again in the sixth, as he worked around a Ladendorf single to record another scoreless frame.

After a leadoff single in the top of the seventh inning, Mark Mason turned to Pete Tago out of the bullpen to relieve von Schammann. Tago worked around a two-out double from Steve Passatempo to strand runners on second and third and keep the score at 4-1.

High Point threatened in the eighth as pinch-hitter Richie Shaffer singled to left to start the inning. Ladendorf followed by reaching first base on a fielder’s choice. After Ladendorf stole second, Schroder flied out to center for the second out of the inning. Marincov came through with a two-out bloop single to center to plate Ladendorf and cut the York lead to 4-2, but after a walk to Rosa put two men on, Josh Judy retired Stephen Cardullo on a fly out to left to end the inning.

The Revs added insurance in the bottom of the eighth in a big way off of Rockers reliever Sam Runion. Isaias Tejeda drew a lead off walk to set the table. Telvin Nash blasted a double high of the Nemesis to give York runners on second and third with no outs. J.P. Sportman followed by drawing a walk to load the bases. High Point turned to righty Kyle Hansen to try to work out of the huge jam. Franco greeted him by blasting his third double of the game off of the glove of Marincov on a deep drive in center field, clearing the bases and blowing open the score to 7-2.

“I feel really good,” said Franco of being in York following his debut.  “I know some of the guys here and I feel great.”

Pat Young was called upon to pitch the ninth inning and worked a perfect 1-2-3 frame with back-to-back strike outs to end it, giving York the win and the 3-1 series lead.

Notes: Franco becomes the 11th player in Revs history to total at least three hits in his team debut.  Franco’s three doubles tie a franchise single-game record for the eighth time and first since Tejeda did it on June 28, 2017 at Bridgeport.  York’s six doubles as a team ties a season-high.  Mesa is the league’s third batter to 10 home runs on the season and second with York, joining Nash who has 13.  He now has five extra-base hits including three homers and six RBI in the first four games of the series, and has driven in 25 runs in the last 28 games.  The Revs have outscored the Rockers 11-0 in the first inning in this series and have outscored opponents 33-16 in the first inning this season, leading the league in first inning runs while having allowed the second-fewest earned runs.  The Revs have won four of their last five at home.  The Revs have their first series win since May 20-23 vs. Southern Maryland, halting a streak of five straight series losses.  Sportman doubled in the sixth, extending his hitting streak to 10 games, tying the second-longest by a Revs batter this season.  von Schamann (1-1) allowing just an unearned run on four hits, no walks, and four strike outs in six-plus innings; he has allowed two earned runs or fewer in all four starts and has walked just two batters in 20.1 innings.  York starters have a 2.20 ERA over the last 12 games and have issued the league’s fewest walks.  Tago’s streak extends to eight straight outings without an earned run.  The Revs have won four of the last five against the Rockers after dropping the first six meetings.
