Wuertz was one of the top relievers in the league last season, going 4-2 with six saves and a 2.86 ERA in 53 appearances. The righty held opponents to a .193 average and whiffed 62 batters in 50.1 innings of work, earning an appearance in the Atlantic League All-Star Game. The 35-year-old is an eight-year Major League veteran, spending his first five seasons with the Chicago Cubs before being dealt to the Oakland Athletics prior to the 2009 season. That year, Wuertz went 6-1 with a 2.63 ERA in 74 games out of the A’s bullpen, and led all American League relievers with 102 strikeouts. Wuertz is 21-11 with a 3.71 ERA in 426 career big league appearances.
