Game Notes »
(May 20, 2019 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution were propelled by three long home runs as they defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 7-1 in game one of a seven-game homestand at PeoplesBank Park on Monday night.

The York offense got off to an early start as Alexi Casilla and Henry Castillo hit one-out singles to set the table in the first inning. Telvin Nash followed with a double to the gap in left-center plating Casilla and giving the Revs a 1-0 lead off of Blue Crabs starter Brandon Cumpton. Isaias Tejeda gave the Revs a 2-0 advantage with an RBI ground out to second base.

York tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third. After Castillo led off the inning with a hustle double to right-center, Nash blasted a no-doubt home run to right center field pushing the Revs lead to 4-0.

Southern Maryland scored their first run of the ballgame in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single from Edwin Garcia.

York responded in a big way as Castillo blasted a solo home run deep to right and onto the roof of the home clubhouse giving the Revs a 5-1 cushion.

Revs starter Daniel Minor was terrific, opening with three scoreless innings and coming back with a scoreless top of the fifth inning after the Garcia single.

Minor started the sixth inning by retiring Tony Thomas on a pop up. After Corey Vaughn reached first on an error, Revs manager Mark Mason called upon Julio Perez who induced an inning-ending double play to retire the side.

The final line for Minor (1-2) was impressive in earning his first Revs win. He went five and one third innings, allowing just one run while striking out six Blue Crabs and walking none.

“It’s great to be back home coming off a seven-game road trip,” said Minor.  “It’s always great to get back in front of our home fans where you feel comfortable in the clubhouse and we showed tonight, our hitters came to the plate, they swung the bat well, the defense did well behind me, and the bullpen held it down so it was a good win for us.”

The offensive fireworks returned in the bottom of the sixth inning for York. Castillo stepped to the plate just a triple short of the cycle and instead crushed his second home run of the game to right center field moving the lead to 6-1.

York’s offense kept clicking in the bottom of the seventh as James Skelton drilled an RBI single up the middle scoring Ryan Dent who had doubled to deep center the previous at-bat, growin the lead to 7-1.

The Crabs threatened in the top of the eighth as Tony Thomas lined a three-run home run to left with no outs, cutting the lead to 7-4. Right hander Pat Young came into the game and was impressive once again as he retired the next three Southern Maryland batters in order.

Josh Judy came on for the save opportunity in the ninth.  “The Judge” worked around a one-out double to record a scoreless inning, retiring Rubi Silva on a soft liner to short to nail down his second save of the season.

Notes: Nash’s home runs was his sixth of the season, tying him for the league lead.  It was also his second in as many games, fourth in the last eight contests, and 59th of his Revs career which ties Chris Nowak for second most in franchise history.  He now sits seven shy of the club record of 66 held by Andres Perez.  Castillo’s two-homer game is the third of his career and second this season.  He leads the league with 11 doubles and 17 extra-base hits while his five home runs are one shy of the top mark.  His four runs scored are a Revs season-best and one shy of a team single-game record.  His 11 total bases in Monday’s game were two shy of a club single-game record.  His four-hit game is the Revs’ second of the year as Skelton enjoyed a four-hit game last Tuesday.  The Revs pounded a season-high 16 hits as a team.  Judy’s save is the 14th of his Revs career, tying Stephen Penney for ninth-most in franchise history.  Minor has allowed just three earned runs in 11.0 innings over his last two starts and has walked just three in 19.2 innings on the season.  The Revs improve to 5-4 all-time in home games when returning from Sugar Land, flying the day of the game.
