Prior to last Thursday’s regular season home finale, the York Revolution honored three of their top contributors on and off the field with the 2024 season’s player awards. Rudy Martin Jr was recognized as the Corey Thurman Community Outreach Player of the Year. Jon Olsen received the team’s Pitcher of the Year, and Jacob Rhinesmith was recognized as Player of the Year.
The Corey Thurman Community Outreach Player of the Year is annually awarded to the player who goes above and beyond to make a positive impact off the field, both at the ballpark and in the community. The award is named after Revs all-time great Corey Thurman who was named to the Atlantic League’s Silver Anniversary Team last year.
All season, Rudy Martin Jr embodied what it means to make a lasting impact as a role model for York’s young fans while also being one of the team’s top contributors on the field.
From his daily interactions with fans, to volunteering his time at numerous special events including reading events with children, he proved to be a true leader on and off the diamond.
On the field, Martin Jr finished third in the league in hitting at .326, and stole a new franchise record 78 bases, which is tied for fourth most in a season by any Atlantic League player ever.
Pitcher of The Year recipient Jon Olsen finished the season with the Atlantic League’s top ERA of 3.60, becoming the first league ERA champion in Revolution franchise history. He proved to be a true master at commanding the strike zone, striking out 28 batters before issuing his first walk.
He became the first Revolution pitcher to begin a season 6-0, and finished the year with a league-high 12 wins. His 136 strikeouts finished second in the league, and is the third highest season total ever by a Revolution pitcher.
Player of the Year Jacob Rhinesmith became a favorite of fans and teammates alike over his two seasons in York, and was one of the most consistent performers in the league in 2024.
Rhinesmith’s .316 batting average ranked eighth in the league, and his 28 doubles put him in the league’s top five. He drove in 67 runs while scoring 88, and was a key contributor in York’s record-breaking stolen base season, stealing 32 bases in as many attempts.
Across the entire season, Rhinesmith walked 63 times while only striking out 45 times, the highest BB/K ratio among all qualified Atlantic League hitters.
