(August 14, 2026 – Central Islip, NY):  The maddening trend of late game defeats continued for the York Revolution on Friday night with a second straight 7-6 extra inning loss to the Long Island Ducks, this time in 11 innings at Fairfield Properties Ballpark. The Revs (62-37, 27-9) see their first place lead cut back to 4.5 games where it stood when the series began earlier this week.

The Revs appeared poised to bounce back from the previous night’s 10 inning loss for most of the evening.

Former Atlantic League co-Pitcher of the Year Zach Mort made his Revs debut, carrying a 5-2 lead into the seventh before the Ducks began to turn the tide.

Down 2-0 after a second inning homer by Jorge Bonifacio, the Revs built their lead with a pair of two-out rallies.

Brian Rey kept the third inning alive with a single to center off Ducks starter Rio Gomez, and Jacob Teter doubled up the alley in left center to get the Revs on the board. Jackson Ross followed with a game-tying RBI double down the left field line, briefly tying Rey and Nick Dunn for the league lead with 30 doubles on the year as the game was even at 2-2.

Rey took the league lead with his 31^st double on a shot to left center with two outs in the fifth. That set up Teter who roped a single to center for his 97^th RBI of the year, giving the Revs the lead. Ross followed with a deep fly to right center that Ducks right fielder Jacob Robson dropped, allowing Teter to score for a 4-2 lead.

York extended the advantage to 5-2 on a double play ball that produced a run in the seventh.

Mort had allowed just two hits since the second until Robson led off the home seventh with a base hit to right and a steal. Bonifacio followed with the first of an unimaginable series of bloops, plopping a single into shallow left center to cut the lead to 5-3. With two outs, Terrell Tatum sprayed a soft single to left center, ending Mort’s night as the Ducks closed to within a run.

Bonifacio led off the ninth with a broken bat bloop single to shallow center, and with one out pinch-hitter Aaron Takacs served an inside-out single to left. That set up Tatum who flared a game-tying single into shallow left center, denying Ryan Shreve of the save in hard-to-believe fashion.

After York failed to score in the top of the tenth, Tommy Ellisen came up huge in the bottom half with his second strike out and a broken bat comebacker to leave the bases loaded, overcoming an error on a potential double play earlier in the inning as the Revs forced the game to continue.

Dunn lined an RBI single to center in the 11^th to give the Revs a 6-5 lead, but an opportunity for more was short circuited when Rey lined into an inning-ending double play.

Leading by just a run, Brendan Collins struck out Rene Pinto for the first out in the bottom of the 11^th but back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Henry Kusiak tied the game on a sac fly to shallow left center as the Revs did not get a throw off to challenge pinch runner Kole Kaler at the plate. Anthony Garcia ended the night with one last bloop, landing a pop fly along the shallow right field line for the game-ending hit.

Notes: The Revs fall to 2-7 in extra innings (0-4 vs Long Island, 0-3 at Fairfield Properties Ballpark). The Revs are now 2-10 in walk-off finals and have fallen victim to the Ducks in four of Long Island’s five total walk-off victories this season over the course of just seven head-to-head meetings between the two teams in Central Islip. Long Island is 5-1 in extras with four of those wins at York’s expense. The Revs have been outscored 53-30 in the ninth inning this season and 22-13 in extras (75-43 in the ninth or later), while having outscored opponents 714-469 prior to the ninth. The Revs fall to 59-4 when leading after eight innings. Dunn (2-for-6) extended his hitting streak to 10 games and his on-base streak to 48, one shy of the league’s longest this year and two shy of a Revs record. Teter’s 97 RBI tie current Boston Red Sox manager Chad Tracy (2014) for fifth most in a season in Revs history, just 10 shy of the single season record; he trails Rey by one for the team lead as Rey has 98 including the August 2 suspended game. Tomo Otosaka scored his 97^th run of the year, tying Scott Grimes (2011) for sixth most in a season. Teter scored twice, giving him 94 runs which ties Eric Patterson (2014) for eighth. Mort joins the Revs after pitching for Saltillo in the Mexican League for the third consecutive season; a former eighth round pick of the Chicago Cubs out of George Mason, he went 13-3 for Gastonia in 2023 when he shared the league’s Pitcher of the Year award with Revs lefty Nick Raquet while setting a league record with 11.4 K/9 that season.
