(April 23, 2022 – Central Islip, NY): The York Revolution had their opening weekend series evened by the Long Island Ducks, suffering an 8-0 setback on Saturday night in front of 4,522 fans at Fairfield Properties Ballpark. After splitting the first two games of the season, the Revs will go for the series victory on Sunday afternoon.
Long Island plated the game’s first three runs, rallying with five singles off Revs starter Austin Nicely in the bottom of the second. Joe DeCarlo and Vladimir Frias drove in runs on hits, sandwiching a Deven Marrero sac fly.
Marrero followed a DeCarlo leadoff triple to deep center in the fourth with another sac fly, increasing the lead for the Ducks to 4-0.
Nicely (0-1) hung in to work six innings in his season debut and walked only two, but was charged with four runs on nine hits.
Sam Travis busted the game open in the bottom of the seventh with a grand slam to left field, providing the 8-0 final.
Bennett Parry handled the first four innings for the Ducks on the mound in the starting role, striking out five and allowing just four hits. Joe Iorio (1-0) grabbed the win, limiting York to one hit in his three innings. Overall, the Revs were blanked on six hits.
Notes: Long Island was the only team to shut out the Revs last season, doing so three times… York’s victory on Friday was its fifth straight in an opener on the road dating to 2009, but the Revs have now been denied in their bid to go 2-0 on the road each time… at two hours and 21 minutes, the game was four minutes quicker than any nine-inning contest the Revs played in 2021.
Up Next: Revs righty Jorge Martinez makes his first start in a York uniform since 2016 on Sunday, squaring off with Long Island right-hander Scott Harkin at 1:35 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and the WOYK YouTube channel beginning at 1:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
