BOX SCORE

The Long Island Ducks produced a two-out rally, scoring four times in the top of the tenth inning to down the York Revolution, 10-7 on Monday night at PeoplesBank Park.

The Ducks began the scoring in the top of the first when Marc Krauss extended his hitting streak to 16 in a row with a two-out double to plate Jordan Pacheco who reached on a walk, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

The Revs answered quickly against Ducks starter Matt Larkins. With Isaias Tejeda and Michael Burgess aboard and two down in the bottom of the first, Telvin Nash crushed a three run home run the opposite way to put the Revs in front 3-1. It was the third home run for Nash in six games since joining the team.

The seesaw match continued in the second. Ruben Gotay led off the inning with a walk and Alex Burg followed with a double to left center. Giovanny Alfonzo and Dan Lyons each followed with sacrifice flies to knot the score at 3-3.

The Ducks would jump back in front in the fifth, loading the bases against Revs starter Victor Mateo who was lifted for Jared Gaynor with one away. It was just the second time this season that Mateo failed to go at least five innings, both times falling short against Long Island. Gaynor allowed one inherited run to come home on a wild pitch to make it 4-3, but escaped further trouble by inducing a flyout and groundout to end the frame.

The Ducks continued their two-out success in the sixth against Jacob Ezell as Alfonzo reached on a single to center and Lyons brought him home with a double to right center. Delta Cleary, Jr. followed with a bouncer through the right side, scoring Lyons to make it 6-3 Long Island.

The Revs responded again, this time against reliever Rob Rogers who took over for Larkins in the sixth. The Revs loaded the bases with one out on walks to Carlos Triunfel and Travis Witherspoon, sandwiched around a single by Ryan Dent. The Ducks turned to lefty John Lannan who recorded a strike out for the second out but walked Jared Mitchell to force in a run, making it 6-4. Tejeda followed, lacing a double down the left field line to score Dent and Witherspoon, but Mitchell was thrown out trying to score from first to end the inning, as the Revs evened it at 6-6.

The game stayed deadlocked into extra innings. York lefty Luke Westphal came on for the tenth and struck out the first two batters he faced. The second punchout of Angelo Songco on a check swing was contested by the Ducks, with pitcher John Brownell ejected by home plate umpire Brian deBrauwere from the Long Island dugout. After the argument, the next five Ducks reached base with Alfonzo, Lyons, and Cleary coming through with RBI hits as the Ducks jumped ahead 10-6.

Dent took closer David Aardsma deep to left center for a solo homer in the bottom of the frame, but that was all the righty would allow, striking out two to seal the Ducks’ 10-7 victory.

The teams return to action Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. when the Revs send lefty Frank Gailey (8-7, 4.56) to the hill to face off with Ducks lefty Rafael Perez (6-6, 4.52). It’s a WellSpan Sports Medicine Silver Slugger Tuesday at PeoplesBank Park. For tickets visit yorkrevolution.com, the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office, or call 717-801-HITS.

Darrell Henry and Matt Present will bring you the action following the conclusion of The Baltimore Baseball Show on 1350 WOYK as well as online at woyk1350.com and the WOYK App.

Burgess went 2-5, extending his hitting streak to six straight (11-28). The Revs fall to 4-4 in extra innings, and gave up their most runs in a game since falling 11-0 to Bridgeport on June 27th.
