(July 14, 2018) — The York Revolution were on the wrong side of a blowout this time around as they lost 13-4 to the Long Island Ducks on Saturday night at PeoplesBank Park, following a 16-1 victory the night before. It sets up a rubber match in the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Ducks got on the board in the top of the first inning on an RBI groundout from Travis Snider off Revs starter Dominic Severino for a 1-0 lead.

Long Island pushed across eight runs on seven hits in the third and took advantage of two Revs errors, pushing their lead to 9-0 against Severino. Dan Lyons led off the inning with a double and scored on Jordany Valdespin’s single to left-center. Two batters later, Lew Ford drove in two runs with a triple to right-center and Daniel Fields chipped in a two-RBI single later in the frame.

Severino (4-5) lasted just two and two-thirds innings, tying his shortest outing of the season. He gave up nine runs (six earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts.

Joe Van Meter came on in relief of Severino and worked three and one-third scoreless innings with five strikeouts, keeping the Ducks at bay in the middle innings.

Meanwhile, the Revs started to figure out Ducks starter John Brownell, who held the Revs hitless through the first three innings.

Welington Dotel hit a solo home run to right-center, his fifth of the season, to get the Revs on the board in the fourth.

York added two more runs in the fifth, both coming with two outs. Jared Mitchell doubled home a run on a line drive off the wall in left and Alexi Casilla plated a run with an infield single. The Revs got one more run in the sixth on Zach Wilson’s RBI double to left-center to make it a 9-4 game.

That was as close as it would get as the Ducks scored four more unearned runs with two outs in the eighth off Luke Westphal to go up 13-4. Snider hit a two-run double down the third base line and Ford followed with a two-run homer to right center to close the scoring.

Brownell (5-7) earned the win for the Ducks, going six innings while allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

Notes: The Revs committed a season-high and franchise-high-tying five errors in the loss. Seven of the Ducks’ 13 runs in the game were unearned. Ricardo Gomez struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning, giving him nine consecutive multi-strikeout outings spanning 9.2 innings. Gomez has 20 strikeouts over his last nine outings.

Up Next: The Revs and Ducks will play the rubber match of their three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. The Revs will send RHP Mitch Atkins (6-3, 4.43) to the mound while the Ducks will go with RHP Tyler Badamo (3-5, 4.50). It is Wizard of Oz Day with a post-game candy drop from a helicopter flying right above the field. It is also $1 Dog Day courtesy of Hatfield Quality Meats and Sunday Funday presented by Weis Markets with a pre-game autograph session and catch on the field and post-game kids run the bases. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Revs Ticket Office.
