Lefty headed to The Show as he gets to set to make MLB debut

(August 20, 2026 – York, Pa.):

Left-handed pitcher Brendan Cellucci, a standout reliever on the York Revolution 2025 Atlantic League championship club, has had his contract selected by the Toronto Blue Jays it was announced on Wednesday. With his promotion to the big league club, his first appearance with Toronto will mark his Major League debut.

Cellucci, 28, becomes the 15th Revs player to go from York to the Majors and the seventh to make his MLB debut.

The Philadelphia native signed with York on July 30, 2025 and posted a 1.96 ERA with nine saves in 18 regular season outings. He was named Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month last August after going 7-for-7 in saves and not allowing a hit in 11 outings, part of a run of 12 consecutive appearances without allowing a hit as he also broke Scott Rice’s previous club record for consecutive scoreless outings (13) to begin a Revs career. The hard throwing southpaw retired 39 of 43 batters (26 on strikeouts) at one point and struck out 32 in 18.1 innings for an eyepopping 15.7 K/9.

Cellucci added four scoreless appearances during the Revs’ postseason run and picked up the win in his last appearance, the clinching Game 4 victory of the Championship Series as the Revs defeated the High Point Rockers, 7-4 on October 1, 2025 to claim their fifth ALPB title.

“I can’t think of a more deserving person,” remarked Revs manager Rick Forney. “When you saw this guy step on the mound for us last year he had big leaguer written all over him. It’s a credit to him. There are a lot of guys who get released and decide to shut it down. Well, you can come here instead and compete and get yourself right and good things can happen. He was hungry and wanted to keep competing and saw this as a viable avenue back. The Atlantic League is an avenue to the big leagues. You can’t pitch any better than he did and we can’t wait to see him get on the mound with Toronto.”

Cellucci spent his first six professional seasons in the Boston Red Sox organization and pitched for former Revs first baseman and current Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy who was his manager at Triple-A Worcester. Originally a 12th round draft pick of the Red Sox out of Tulane University in 2019, Cellucci parlayed his standout performance with the Revs into a contract with the Blue Jays last offseason and went 6-2 with a 3.68 ERA in 39 outings for Triple-A Buffalo this season along with one scoreless appearance at Double-A New Hampshire, earning his big league call up.

It has been a banner year for former Revs as Cellucci joins LHP Nick Raquet (2023) in the big leagues this season; Raquet debuted with the St. Louis Cardinals last year and has had multiple big-league call-ups with the Baltimore Orioles this year. Outfielder Rudy Martin Jr (2024) landed on a 40-man roster for the first time in his career with the Orioles and is now at Triple-A Buffalo in the Blue Jays organization while Tracy has made headlines orchestrating the Red Sox’ remarkable turnaround as Boston’s interim manager, becoming the first former Atlantic League player to manage a big league club.
