Frank Gailey became the third winningest pitcher in York Revolution history and the first Atlantic Leaguer to ten wins this season, tossing seven shutout innings of one-hit ball in a rain-shortened 7-0 victory over the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday night at PeoplesBank Park. The game was called after heavy rain and lightning at the end of seven innings.
The only hit against Gailey was a bunt single by Scott Kelly in the fourth. He faced just three over the minimum, with only one Patriot making it to third base. The Revs lefty had all of his pitches working from the onset, striking out four, and recording his 21st career victory in a Revs uniform, trailing only Corey Thurman and Chris Cody on the all-time wins list.
The Revs provided their starter with plenty of support, although all seven runs ended up being unearned.
For the third straight game, the Revs opened the scoring in the first inning. Alexi Casilla reached on an error by third baseman Olmo Rosario with two away. Telvin Nash and Luis Cruz followed with an RBI single and RBI double respectively to give York a 2-0 lead.
The Revs would again do damage with two outs in the fifth. With Jared Mitchell on at second after reaching on an error, Alonzo Harris singled to center to score him to make it 3-0. It began a stretch where six straight Revs reached base. Travis Witherspoon walked and Casilla came through with a single through the left side to score Harris, increasing the lead to 4-0. Nash followed with a single up the middle to score two runs, as the Revs blew the game open at 6-0. Nash posted three RBI in the ballgame and now has 23 runs driven in over just 24 games played this season.
The Revs added another unearned run in the sixth when Mitchell again reached on an error by shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez. Chase Simpson followed by ripping a double into the right field corner to push the York lead to 7-0.
Gailey went back out to begin the eighth amidst a steady drizzle, but with storms lurking, the umpires called for the tarp just before the skies opened, and after a delay of thirty minutes, the umpires called the game after seven complete.
The Revs look to make it three wins in-a-row on Wednesday night as they send righty Steve Janas (4-5, 4.70) to the mound to face off with Somerset righty Will Oliver (5-4, 5.36). The one hit allowed by the Revs was the fewest this season and marked the third one-hitter in team history, the second occurring in a seven-inning contest. Gailey becomes the second pitcher in Revs history to throw a one-hit complete game, joining Chris Waters who did so in a nine inning contest on 9/18/12 at Sugar Land in 6-0 win. Mitchell has now reached base safely in 27 consecutive home contests, the fifth longest streak in Revs history. Harris and Nash each extend their hitting streaks to six straight games.
