(July 1, 2018) — The York Revolution came up short in their bid for a four-game sweep of the Somerset Patriots, as the Revs fell 9-4 on a scorching hot Sunday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park.

The Patriots struck for the first run of the game in the first inning when Alfredo Rodriguez hit a solo homer over the Arch Nemesis.

Somerset got five more in the second and sent 11 men to the plate in the process. Sac flies from Endy Chavez and Kyle Roller brought in two of the runs, while another scored on a base-loaded hit by pitch to Julio Borbon. Kyle Massey added an infield RBI single and the Patriots took a commanding 6-0 lead after two innings. Revs starter Pat McCoy was hurt by four walks in the inning.

After the Patriots scored another run in the top of the third, the Revs answered in the bottom of the inning. Melky Mesa blasted a three-run home run over the Arch Nemesis against Somerset starter Duane Below, his fifth of the season, to make it a 7-3 game.

The Revs bullpen kept it a 7-3 game into the late innings, as Jailen Peguero and Devan Watts combined to allow just one baserunner in three and two-third innings.

Below continued to deal for the Patriots and finished his day after six innings, allowing just three runs. He totaled eight strikeouts while walking just one and scattering seven hits.

Somerset got to the Revs’ bullpen in the top of the eighth when Zac Treece allowed two runs on three hits, as the Patriots extended their lead to 9-3.

The Revs responded in the bottom of the inning when Mesa launched a solo homer to left-center for his sixth of the season and first multi-homer game, to make it 9-4.

McCoy (1-4) suffered the loss after giving up seven runs in three and one-third innings. Below (4-2) earned the win, beating the Revs for the third time this season.

Notes: Mesa became the fifth Rev this season with a multi-HR game, joining Michael Burgess, Zach Wilson, Ryan Dent and Tyler Clark. Mesa reached base safely all four times up to bat, raising his batting average to .341 and on-base percentage to .385. Mesa had four RBI in the game, his first four-RBI game and team-leading ninth multi-RBI game this season. Mesa also had three hits, giving him 17 multi-hit games on the season, tied for second on the team with Welington Dotel.

Up Next: The Revs are off Monday before opening a three-game home series with the Sugar Land Skeeters on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. It’s the final series of the Atlantic League first half.
