(July 27, 2019 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution put up another big offensive performance but fell in a comeback attempt to the New Britain Bees, 13-10 on Saturday night at PeoplesBank Park.  The loss sets up a rubber match in the series on Sunday afternoon as York goes for its 12th series win in the last 13 tries.

York left-hander Ian Thomas got off to a great start in the top of the first. The former Braves and Dodgers southpaw worked around a walk to record a scoreless frame, while the Revs took the first lead of the game in their half of the first. 

Justin Trapp led off the inning by reaching first on an error. After Bees starter David Roseboom retired Melky Mesa, Telvin Nash slapped a single to right with Trapp running on the play to put runners on the corners with one out. Roseboom struck out Carlos Franco, but Welington Dotel ripped a two-out single to left-center to score Trapp and give York the 1-0 lead.

The lead would not last for long, as the Bees used a two-run home run from Jared James to left-center to take the lead, 2-1 after two innings.

The Bees offense exploded in the top of the third inning to build a huge lead. Darren Ford led off the frame with a bunt single. After walks to Zach Collier and Jonathan Galvez loaded the bases, a third consecutive walk to Jason Rogers forced Ford across home plate and moved the score to 3-1. Bijan Rademacher then singled home Collier to make it 4-1. The Bees added a run on a Rando Moreno sacrifice bunt, and an additional run came in when the Revs failed to cover home plate pushing the lead to 6-1. After the Bees loaded the bases again, Ford lined a two-run single to right to score two Bees and move the New Britain advantage to 8-1. Collier capped off the seven-run inning with an RBI single to drive the lead to 9-1.

The Revs roared back with a big third inning of their own. Telvin Nash cracked a one-out double off of the top of the wall in right-center field to start the threat. Franco singled and Dotel walked to load the bases.  Angelys Nina crushed a bases-clearing three-run triple to right-center field that cut the deficit to 9-4. Nina came in to score on a wild pitch to slice into the margin even further at 9-5. Alvaro Rondon finished the strong inning with an RBI single to right to make the score 9-6 after three innings of play.

York’s Sam Burton and New Britain’s Sam Gervacio both twirled scoreless fourth innings.

The Bees offense would not be quiet for long as they added three in the top of the fifth inning courtesy of a Galvez home run over the Arch Nemesis in left, making it 12-6 New Britain.

Trapp answered with a two-run home run to left-center in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to 12-8.

The Bees added yet another run on a bases-loaded single from Galvez to make it 13-8 in the sixth.

The Revs cut it to 13-10 in the bottom of the seventh on a bases loaded two-run single to left from Franco.

With a three-run lead, Bees manager Mauro Gozzo called in Jim Fuller for a six-out save. The All-Star lefty shut down the York offense, retiring six of seven batters faced to even the series at one win apiece.

Notes: The Revs have scored 10 or more in three consecutive games, a franchise first.  At four hours and six minutes in length, the game came within nine minutes of matching the longest nine-inning game in club history; it was the Revs’ longest nine-inning game since 2010.  The teams combined to throw 445 pitches (York-255, New Britain-190).  The third inning alone lasted 58 minutes with a combined 101 pitches thrown.  The seven-run inning allowed is the Revs’ largest since a seven-run frame on May 29 at New Britain.  All three of Trapp’s home runs this season have come against New Britain; it was his first at home and 48th of his pro career.  Dotel extended his hitting streak to eight games with a pair of singles.  Rondon (4-for-5) registered a season-high in hits for the Revs.  The Revs fall to 10-5 in the second half, still in first place by half a game ahead of Southern Maryland.  The Revs have been in first place for 10 games in the second half, their most since the 2017 season.  York’s seven-game head-to-head winning streak against New Britain is snapped; it came within one of matching the Revs’ longest winning streak ever against one opponent, as was their longest against any one opponent since a seven-gamer in 2015 vs. Camden.  The Revs’ previous longest streak against the Bees was five straight wins in 2016.  York righty Mitch Atkins (5-4, 3.09) faces New Britain right-hander Cory Riordan (4-4, 4.01) in Sunday’s finale at 1 p.m.  It is Sunday Family Funday presented by Weis Markets, Bark in the Park presented by East York Veterinary Center, and the day features Superheroes Appearances.  Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Revs Ticket Office.
