(April 27, 2017 – Waldorf, Md.) – The York Revolution offense enjoyed a breakout performance while Frank Gailey headlined a record-setting effort on the mound, as the Revs walloped the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 11-2 on Thursday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium. The win wraps up a season-opening six-game road trip for the Revs (2-4) who end a four-game slide, before returning to PeoplesBank Park for the 2017 home opener vs. Somerset on Friday evening.
Angel Franco opened the scoring for the Revs, launching a two-run homer off the picnic canopy in left field for a 2-0 lead in the top of the second.
The Revs, held to a combined seven runs on their four-game skid, went off for seven runs in the fourth inning alone. Isaias Tejeda laid the foundation with a single to right, and a pair of ensuing errors loaded the bases with no outs. Ryan Dent ripped an RBI single to left for the first run, and with one out, Alonzo Harris took a bases loaded walk to force home another run. Jose Constanza then reached on the second error of the inning by third baseman Patrick Palmeiro to drive in one more, and Joel Guzman provided the exclamation mark, drilling a grand slam to left-center as the lead ballooned to 9-0.
Harris added a two-run single to center in the fifth, extending York’s lead to 11-0.
Meanwhile, Gailey (2-0) was dazzling in his second start of the season, tossing six scoreless frames with just two hits and no walks, while striking out five. After allowing singles in each of the first two innings, the southpaw went on to retire his final 15 batters in order, coming within two of a team record for consecutive hitters retired in a single game by an individual pitcher.
Hawtin Buchanan fired a perfect seventh, and Jarret Martin set down his first two batters in the eighth, as the team’s streak reached 20 consecutive batters retired, a new franchise record for a single game.
Southern Maryland would break up the shutout with runs in the eighth and ninth on RBI singles by Kalaika Kahoohalahala and Palmeiro.
Harris went 2-for-5 with three RBI out of the leadoff spot for York, and now has four multi-hit games in the first six contests of the season. Guzman, Tejeda, and Dent all notched two-hit games, with Dent also walking twice and reaching base in each of his final four trips to the plate.
Notes: Guzman’s slam was the first of his Revs career; the slugger led the team with 16 long balls last season. The previous team record for consecutive batters retired was 19 in-a-row, accomplished on September 2, 2014 in a 5-0 win at Bridgeport.
