(May 10, 2017 – Central Islip, NY): Isaias Tejeda launched a three-run home run in the sixth inning to bring the York Revolution back from a three-run deficit, but the Revs dropped the final game of their road trip, 4-3 to the Long Island Ducks on Wednesday evening in front of 5,085 fans at Bethpage Ballpark. Denied of a sweep, the Revs return home with a series win and a 3-3 record on their completed six-game road trip. York hosts Bridgeport in the opener of a four-game series at PeoplesBank Park on Thursday evening.
The Revs were shut out on just three hits through the first five innings by Long Island starter Tim Melville, but Angel Franco sparked things with a leadoff double to left in the sixth. After a walk to Michael Burgess with one out, Tejeda connected on a game-tying three-run home run to left, off the glove of left fielder Angelo Songco on a leaping attempt at the wall.
Tejeda went 3-for-4 and ended Melville’s night with the home run, but the long ball provided the only offense for the Revs as Long Island’s bullpen faced the minimum over the final 3.2 innings, limiting York to just one hit.
Alex Burg led off the bottom of the sixth for Long Island with a solo homer to left, as the Ducks retook the lead for good at 4-3.
Burg’s home run was one of only two blemishes for Revs starter Curtis Partch (0-3), who was touched for three runs, two unearned in the second inning as the Revs fell behind early. After a throwing error by third baseman Bryan Pounds, Giovanny Alfonzo provided an RBI single to left, Fehlandt Lentini smacked an RBI double near the third base line, and Delta Cleary, Jr. lofted a sacrifice fly to spot the Ducks a 3-0 lead. Partch came back to allow just an infield hit over the next three innings, all scoreless, and finished the night with four runs (two earned) on five hits in five-plus innings. He walked four and struck out six.
Hawtin Buchanan, Melvin Mercedes, and Julio DePaula each worked scoreless innings out of the Revolution bullpen.
Notes: Tejeda’s three-hit game was his second of the season and ties the most hits in a game by any Revs batter in a game this year. The three-run homer was the Revs’ first of the season; the Revs also have one grand slam (Joel Guzman, April 27 at Southern Maryland). Tejeda went 8-for-20 (.400) on the road trip with two home runs, hitting safely in each of his five games played. All three of Tejeda’s home runs have been hit against Long Island. Wednesday’s game marked the first time in seven meetings between York and Long Island that the home team won. The Ducks snapped a five-game skid, and avoided an 0-6 homestand, improving to 2-7 at home.
