(August 23, 2018) — The York Revolution had the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth but fell short in a frustrating 6-4 loss to the Lancaster Barnstormers on Thursday night at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs go back to .500 at 52-52 on the season after splitting the four-game series with the Stormers.

Trayvon Robinson hit an RBI single off Revs starter Carl Brice to put the Barnstormers up 1-0 in the top of the first. Brice stranded the bases loaded though, holding the Stormers to just one run.

The Revs tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on Travis Witherspoon’s sac fly to left off Barnstormers starter John Anderson.

The Revs took the lead in the third when Melky Mesa scored from third on a wild pitch with two outs to make it a 2-1 game. Mesa tripled off the wall in deep left-center to set up the go-ahead run.

The Barnstormers responded for five runs in the top of the fourth to retake the lead and knock Brice out of the game. Two of the runs came off Revs reliever Jailen Peguero, who took over for Brice and got all three outs in the inning.

York got a run back in the sixth off Lancaster reliever Huascar Brazoban when Telvin Nash scored from third on a wild pitch, making it a 6-3 game.

The Revs scored again in the seventh when Tyler Clark came home on a 6-4-3 double play to pull the Revs closer at 6-4, but the double play helped silence a potential rally.

Lancaster turned to closer Matt Reynolds in the bottom of the ninth with the score still 6-4. The Revs sparked a comeback attempt as Jared Mitchell and Alexi Casilla both singled up the middle to start the inning. Mesa flied out to right but advanced Mitchell to third to put runners at the corners with one out. Nash was up next as the winning run, and after a lengthy battle with Reynolds, grounded into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play started on a diving stop by Stormers shortstop Vladimir Frias.

Anderson (4-2) earned the win for Lancaster, allowing two runs in five innings, and Reynolds picked up his 24th save. Brice (0-1) suffered the loss for the Revs after giving up four runs in three-plus innings.

The Revs bullpen kept the game close as Lancaster was held hitless following a leadoff infield hit by K.C. Hobson in the fifth.

York out-hit Lancaster 13-7 but stranded at least one runner in eight of nine innings.

Lancaster takes the season series, 10-8, winning the Community Cup for the first time since 2016.
