(August 10, 2021 – York, Pa.):  Eduardo Rivera allowed just one hit over six strong innings but the York Revolution were unable to put away the Lancaster Barnstormers, falling 5-2 in Tuesday’s series opener in front of 3,726 fans at PeoplesBank Park.

After finally getting underway following a one-hour, 58-minute rain delay, both teams were held scoreless over the first four frames.

York broke the scoreless stalemate in the fifth. All with one out, the Revs loaded the bases on Lancaster starter Zach Smith as James Harris collected a single to right-center while Jack Kenley and Melky Mesa both worked walks. For the 1-0 lead, Nellie Rodriguez plated Harris on a broke bat single to shallow center.

York widened its lead on an insurance run in the seventh. After loading the bases on walks, a wild pitch from Barnstormers reliever Donald Goodson allowed Kenley to score for a 2-0 advantage.

Rivera was excellent in six scoreless innings. The righthander worked around five walks and allowed only one hit while fanning six Barnstormers.

Brandon Fry followed with a scoreless seventh, striking out the side in a 1-2-3 inning.

The Barnstormers charged back and took the lead, 3-2, in the eighth. Cleuluis Rondon walked to lead off the inning. With one out, York reliever Edward Paredes hit Blake Allemand with a pitch and Blake Gailen smacked a run-scoring double down the left field line to make it 2-1. Alejandro De Aza also was hit by a pitch which forced York to call on reliever Isaac Sanchez. After Sanchez struck out Trayvon Robinson, pinch-hitter LeDarious Clark reached on a throwing error which allowed Allemand and Gailen to score for a 3-2 Lancaster lead.

Lancaster padded its lead in the ninth with a two-out, two-run home run to right-center from Allemand, his 13th home run of the season and seventh long ball against York.

The Revs sent the tying run to the plate in the ninth after a Kenley single and a Mesa double with two outs (nine-game hitting streak), but Scott Shuman struck out Nellie Rodriguez to secure the save as the Revs fell 5-2.

York continues its series with the Barnstormers Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Duke von Schamann (3-5) makes the start for the Revs, while Lancaster will go with lefty Augie Sylk (2-3). Wednesday is Shipley Energy Night at PeoplesBank Park. It is also Downtown’s Birthday! Tickets are available at yorkrevolution.com, 717-801-HITS, or in-person in the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.
