(August 17, 2021 – Waldorf, Md.):  The York Revolution made some late noise offensively but fell to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, 7-3 on Tuesday night at Regency Furniture Stadium in the opening game of a three-game series.

Crabs ace Daryl Thompson (8-2) came within one out of a complete game and moved into sole possession of second on the Atlantic League’s all-time wins list with his 68th victory.

The Southern Maryland offense spotted Thompson an early lead with a four-run first inning against Jhoendri Herrera, making his Revs debut.  Rubi Silva doubled off the left field wall, plating a run to give the Crabs a lead two batters in.  Josh McAdams added a sac fly, and Joe DeLuca provided a damaging two-out, two-run single to right for a 4-0 lead.

McAdams brought home another two-out run on an RBI single to left in the third, as did Silva on a leadoff homer to left in the fifth as the lead grew to 6-0.

Herrera (1-1) alternated scoreless innings, including an eight-pitch second inning and a six-pitch fourth.  He allowed just two runs over his final five innings, but suffered the loss after allowing six total in six innings of work.

Thompson cruised, meanwhile, facing the minimum through the first 4.2 innings and taking a shutout into the seventh.

The Revs got on the board when Welington Dotel ripped an RBI single to left in the top of the seventh, plating Melky Mesa who had led off with a double.

The Crabs got that run back on a Michael Baca homer to left, leading off the bottom of the seventh.

James Harris lined a solo homer to left in the top of the eighth to make it 7-2, and Nellie Rodriguez crushed a tape-measure solo home run to deep left-center in the top of the ninth.  Josue Herrera and Osmy Gregorio singled with two outs to chase Thompson and bring the tying run to the on-deck circle, but reliever Endrys Briceno induced a game-ending fly out in foul territory to pick up his second save.

Notes: The Revs have homered in all four games on the current road trip, totaling eight long balls.  Rodriguez has homered in three of four games and extends his hitting streak to eight games.  He now has six home runs and 16 RBI in the last 11 games, and has driven in nearly a run per game this season with 42 RBI in just 43 games played.  York righty Duke von Schamann (4-5, 5.94) starts on Wednesday against Crabs right-hander Carl Brice (1-2, 7.54) at 6:35 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and the WOYK YouTube channel beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
