(August 29, 2026 – Staten Island, NY): The York Revolution fell to the Staten Island FerryHawks, 7-2 on Saturday night at SIUH Community Park as the Revs (70-43, 35-15) see their division lead shrink to two games with 13 to play in the regular season.
York jumped to a quick lead with three consecutive singles to start the game. Tomo Otosaka took a full count offering to left field for a game-opening base hit and Nick Dunn landed a bloop base hit to left. Brian Rey followed with an RBI single to center as the Revs led 1-0, three batters into the game.
Kennys Vargas muscled a solo homer down the right field line in the bottom of the first to tie the score, and Anthony Abbatine capped a two-out rally in the second with a jam shot bloop RBI single to right as the FerryHawks went in front against Revs starter Chris McElvain (0-2).
Vargas and Alfredo Gonzalez added RBI groundouts in the third as Staten Island’s lead grew to 4-1, and Lamar Briggs served an RBI single past a drawn-in infield in the fourth ending reliever Shane Gray’s five-appearance scoreless streak to make it a 5-1 game.
York had been silenced by Staten Island starter Wilber Perez until Otosaka led off the fifth with a triple to left center and scored on Rey’s sac fly to deep left, bringing York within 5-2. Jacob Teter made a bid at cutting the deficit closer but Abbatine robbed the Revs’ cleanup man with a diving catch on his liner to right center.
Lefty Cory Ronan (1-0) earned the win, recording the final out of the fifth before working a 1-2-3 sixth and steering through a potential threat in the seventh when Dunn was thrown out attempting to go first-to-third on Rey’s single to right.
Brendan Yagesh worked four innings out of the Revs bullpen but was victimized by a pair of unearned runs in the seventh when Staten Island took advantage of two throwing errors on sacrifice bunts to provide the final margin.
Notes: York has dropped two of the last three games to Staten Island after winning 16 of the first 17 meetings this season. Rey increases his franchise single season record to 110 RBI on the year. With two hits, Rey has 159 hits on the season, tying Jose Herrera (2010) and Justin Greene (2014) for fifth most in club history, 13 shy of James Shanks’ all-time record. Otosaka has tripled three times in the series. With two runs scored, Otosaka has 109 runs for the year moving into fourth on the Revs single-season list.
Next: The Revs will aim to take four out of six in the series as LHP Julian Costa (8-2, 5.21) faces righty Anthony Quattrocchi (0-2, 10.69) on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, the York Revolution app, and Dugout TV beginning at 1:10 p.m.
