(June 23, 2021 – York, Pa.):  Carlos Castro launched another home run, clobbering a three-run shot in the bottom of the eighth but it was too little, too late for the York Revolution in a 9-5 loss to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Wednesday evening at PeoplesBank Park.  The Revs will look to avoid a sweep when they conclude the 12-game homestand Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Southern Maryland used two home runs between the second and third to build an early 4-1 lead. Josh McAdams connected on his third home run of the year to left center for two in the second. Dario Pizzano hit his home run to left field as well, an opposite field shot for two more in the third.

The Revs scored once in the second off the bat of newcomer James Harris. JC Encarnacion worked a leadoff walk to start things and Jack Kenley collected an infield hit to move Encarnacion to scoring position. A wild pitch from Blue Crabs starter Mike Devine moved both runners ahead and Harris hit a ground ball to short that allowed Encarnacion to cross home plate for the sole York run of the inning.

The Blue Crabs scored twice on four hits in the sixth as back-to-back run-scoring hits from Michael Baca and Matt Hibbert did the damage and made the lead 6-1.

York responded in their sixth with one run. Castro continued his torrid homestand with a lead off triple to right. A batter later, Encarnacion drove in Castro on another ground out to short, cutting the Blue Crabs lead to 6-2.

Three more Blue Crabs runs scored in the eighth on three hits. Joe de Luca singled to center for the first run. Hibbert legged out a line drive double to left for the second and Pizzano drove in his third of the night on an infield hit.

Castro kept the Revs in it with a three-run home run to left center after Darian Sandford and Yan Sanchez worked back-to-back walks in the eighth. The blast brought York back within four of Southern Maryland, 9-5, but that’s as close as it would get.

Devine (3-2) earned the win allowing two earned runs on five hits, two walks, and 11 strike outs in seven innings.

Revs starter Duke von Schamann (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits, no walks and three punch outs in six innings.

Austin Nicely (1-2, 5.82) makes his fifth start of the season for York in Thursday’s finale while Southern Maryland will send Brandon Barker (0-2, 3.66) to the mound. The Revs conclude the 12-game homestand with Throwback Thursday featuring 40’s Mystery Night. Fans will help Cannonball Charlie, Diamond Doug, and DownTown solve a great caper as the Revs face the Blue Crabs. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.

Notes: Castro leads the league with 27 RBI in just 19 games played. He posted his sixth consecutive multi-hit game and is now 14-for-24 (.583) on that streak with 12 multi-hit games on the year.  His seven home runs are one off the league lead; he has gone yard in five of the last six games and three straight.  Yan Sanchez saw his season-opening 11-game hitting streak snapped; the streak is the league’s third-longest this season.
