(July 4, 2018) — The York Revolution came up short, falling 3-2 in a rain-shortened loss to the Sugar Land Skeeters in front of 5,939 fans on Wednesday, July 4 evening at PeoplesBank Park. The game was called due to lightning with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, and was ruled completed after a lengthy rain delay. The Revs will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they conclude both the homestand and the regular season's first half schedule on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The Revs struck first as Alexi Casilla hit a sac fly to center field scoring Jared Mitchell in the bottom of the first to give the Revs a 1-0 lead off Skeeters starter Matt Sergey. Mitchell led off with a single, stole second, and moved to third on an error to set up the opportunity.

The Revs added another run in the second when Michael Burgess blasted a solo home run to right field, extending the lead to 2-0. It was Burgess’ 10th homer of the season and moved him into a tie for third place in the league in long balls.

Revs starter Robert Carson was nearly unhittable early on and needed just 42 pitches to get through four shutout innings.

Carson ran into trouble in the fifth when he allowed a two-out single to Josh Whisler to set up a first-and-third situation for the Skeeters. Anthony Giansanti was up next and smacked a three-run homer over the Arch Nemesis in left with two strikes on him to give the Skeeters a 3-2 lead.

Neither team scored after that, and the game was stopped with two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the sixth. Burgess was set to face Skeeters reliever Kraig Sitton, but play was halted following a massive flash of lightning before Sitton threw a pitch.

The game was later ruled official after lightning and rain caused a long delay.

Sergey (2-4) earned the complete-game win for the Skeeters, allowing just two runs with six strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings. Carson (5-3) took a hard-luck complete-game loss, working all six innings for the Revs. He allowed three runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and only one walk, and picked up a quality start.

Up Next: The Revs and Skeeters will finish their three-game series Thursday at 6:30 p.m. It’s Sandlot Night at PeoplesBank Park as Revs’ LHP Jonathan Sanchez will face Skeeters’ LHP James Russell. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Revs Ticket Office.
