(July 31, 2018) – The York Revolution held an early edge but saw the Sugar Land Skeeters score nine unanswered runs including a five-run seventh, falling 10-3 in front of 4,473 fans at Constellation Field on Tuesday night. The Revs slip to 3.5 games back in the second half division standings, and are now 2-3 on their visit to Sugar Land with two games remaining.
The Skeeters grabbed the game's first run in the bottom of the first as Anthony Giansanti reached on a two-out walk, stole two bases, and scored on Courtney Hawkins' single to left.
York answered in the top of the second as Luis Cruz ripped a two-out RBI single to left-center, extending his hitting streak to eight consecutive games. The base hit plated Ryan Dent who doubled to left-center earlier in the inning.
Melky Mesa crushed a homer down the left field line in the top of the third as York led 2-1 on Mesa's 11th of the season.
Sugar Land began a stretch of five consecutive innings with a run, tying the game on a Giansanti sac fly in its half of the third.
Derek Norris cracked a two-out RBI double to right-center in the fourth to give the Skeeters the lead. Juan Silverio added an RBI single up the middle in the fifth, and Matt Chavez drove in a run on a double to left-center in the sixth.
Sugar Land effectively put the game away with a five-run seventh. York reliever Josh Blanco ran into trouble right away after hitting Javier Betancourt with a pitch to start the inning. Three consecutive walks followed to force in a run. Hawkins brought home another run on a base hit to left. Silverio scored the inning's third run on a wild pitch, while Chavez and Norris provided RBI singles to left off reliever Luke Westphal to make it 10-2.
Cruz homered to left on an 0-2 pitch with two outs in the ninth to account for the game's final scoring, capping a 3-for-4 night at the plate as he is now batting .467 (14-for-30) on his eight-game streak.
Sugar Land starter James Russell (5-3) picked up the win, limiting the Revs to two runs over six innings.
York starter Robert Carson (7-5) suffered the loss, charged with five runs in six innings of work.
