BOX SCORE
For the second night in a row, the York Revolution had a chance for late inning heroics but came up just short, falling 6-4 to the New Britain Bees in ten innings on Wednesday evening at PeoplesBank Park.
Trailing by two in the last of the tenth, the Revs (12-21) loaded the bases against Bees closer Joe Beimel on a Travis Witherspoon single to left, followed by an error by Bees first baseman Jovan Rosa allowing Bryan Pounds to reach, and a two-out walk to Derrick Robinson. Mark Mason called on pinch hitter Carlos Triunfel who bounced out to shortstop, as the Revs fell for the third straight night to the Bees.
New Britain got out to an early lead, scoring one in the first and two in the second on a combined six hits against Revs starter Logan Williamson. The Revs lefty settled down though, working five innings allowing just those three runs, and striking out three.
The Revs would get back into it with a three-run second inning, sending eight men to the plate, tallying five hits, and RBIs from Isaias Tejeda on a groundout, and Michael Burgess and Travis Witherspoon on singles.
Burgess then led off the fifth swinging at the first pitch from Kyle Simon, and launching his fifth home run of the season over the fence in left center field to give the Revs their first lead of the game at 4-3.
The Bees would answer in the following half inning, however, as James Skelton came through with an RBI single to plate Yusuke Kajimoto, who led off the inning with a single up the middle.
After forcing extras, New Britain would seize the lead for good in the tenth with back-to-back doubles from Jamar Walton and Steve Carrillo (RBI) to start the inning, followed up by an insurance run on a Rosa single to center.
The Revs look to salvage the series finale on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., sending Frank Gailey (5-1, 2.91) to the hill to face off with New Britain’s Mike Lee (0-2, 5.78). Darrell Henry and Matt Present will be on the air at 6:10 p.m. on WOYK 1350, and online at woyk1350.com, YorkRevsTV.com, and the WOYK app. For tickets to the game visit yorkrevolution.com, the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office, or call 717-801-HITS.
