(September 6, 2019 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution were kept off balance all night in their return home, held to just one hit in a 2-1 loss to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Friday evening at PeoplesBank Park.  York, now 32-22 in the second half, leads the Freedom Division by 1.5 games for first place and will look to rebound as the series continues on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Blue Crabs starter Mitch Lambson took a no-hitter into the eighth in his Atlantic League debut as the Revs faced the second-longest no-hit bid by an opposing pitcher in club history and the longest at PeoplesBank Park.

York struck first in the game, scoring without a hit in the bottom of the first.  Justin Trapp drew a four-pitch walk to lead off the first and Welington Dotel sacrificed him ahead on a bunt.  A throwing error by first baseman Josh McAdams advanced Trapp to third, setting him up to score on a Telvin Nash sac fly to deep center for a 1-0 lead.

Southern Maryland answered in the second as Cory Vaughn singled to left and Charlie Valerio stroked a ground rule double to deep right-center, setting up Joe Benson for a sac fly to center, tying the score at 1-1.

The Blue Crabs broke the tie in the fifth as Rubi Silva legged out a hustle double on a grounder up the middle that deflected into shallow center.  After advancing to third on a fly out toward the left field corner, Silva came home on a two-out RBI single to right by Edwin Garcia.

Revs starter Duke von Schamann (8-6) was solid in defeat, limiting the Crabs to just those two runs on six hits in seven innings of work.  von Schamann held the opponent without a walk for the fifth consecutive start, extending his walkless streak to 32.0 consecutive innings setting a new franchise record.

Josh Smoker followed von Schamann with a 1-2-3 eighth inning in relief to keep the game close.

York threatened in the bottom of the eighth as Ryan Dent worked a leadoff walk and James Skelton singled through the right side to bust up the no-hit bid.  Lambson (1-0) came back to retire Henry Castillo on a fouled bunt attempt for the first out, however, and induced an inning-ending 1-6-3 double play off the bat of Trapp to escape the threat.

Mat Latos fired a 1-2-3 ninth with two strike outs to close it out, recording his 24th save in 26 opportunities.

Notes: Nash’s first inning RBI was his league-leading 91st of the season, as he now stands alone with the fifth-highest total in a season in club history and the most since Andres Perez’ 92 RBI in 2015.  von Schamann’s walkless streak surpasses the previous club record for a starter (27.2 innings by Victor Mateo in 2017) and the previous overall club record (29.2 innings by Jason Kershner in 2009).  The one-hitter is the eighth thrown against the Revs all-time and fourth in a nine-inning game. It is the first in a nine-inning game since June 2, 2015 at Long Island and the first in a nine-inning game at home since June 10, 2010 vs. Bridgeport.  The only longer no-hit bid against the Revs came on June 2, 2015 at Long Island when Ducks knuckle baller Mickey Jannis carried one through 7.2 innings.

Roster Moves: Prior to Friday’s game, the Revs activated right-handed reliever Victor Capellan who debuted with a pair of strike outs in a scoreless ninth inning.  Capellan was acquired from Winnipeg of the American Association in a trade for a player to be named later. The Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic native began his pro career in the Arizona Diamondbacks system, reaching the Triple-A level by age 22.  He has pitched in the American Association since 2014 and with Winnipeg since 2016 where he has put up scintillating numbers including a 1.25 ERA in 50 appearances in 2017, 22 saves in 2018, and 27 saves this season which ranked second in the league for the second consecutive year.  York placed starter Dan Minor on the temporary inactive list to make room on the roster for Capellan’s addition.
