(July 3, 2023 – High Point, NC):  The York Revolution blasted four home runs to win their series finale against the High Point Rockers, 11-6 on Monday evening at Truist Point. With the come-from-behind victory, the Revs retake first place in the North Division by half a game and control their own destiny with five to play in the season’s first half race.

York got behind early as Shed Long Jr. led off the bottom of the first with a homer to right, and Michael Martinez added a sac fly in the second for a 2-0 High Point lead.

The Revs responded in the third as Trent Giambrone launched a towering game-tying two-run homer to left on a 3-0 green light, and Drew Mendoza added a two-run bomb to dead center field off the batters’ eye for a 4-2 Revs advantage.

York starter Jorge Martinez accentuated the outburst with a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half of the frame, but High Point rallied for three runs in the fourth to take a 5-4 lead. Brian Parreira doubled to right center to plate two runs tying the score, and Long Jr. added an RBI fielder’s choice.

The Revs missed opportunities to draw even after leadoff hits in the fifth and sixth, but reliever Andrew Cabezas (1-0) held the fort with a pair of scoreless innings and benefited from a great sliding, tumbling catch by Tomo Otosaka to end the fifth with a pair of runners stranded.

The offense erupted for six runs, taking control of the game in the seventh.  Giambrone and Troy Stokes Jr. singled sandwiching a bunt hit from Otosaka as York loaded the bases with no outs. Mendoza propelled York ahead to stay with a two-run double to deep left center, putting the Revs ahead 6-5 and chasing lefty reliever Bryce Hensley (3-1). Jacob Rhinesmith roped an RBI single to right to make it 7-5. Trey Martin put an emphatic capper on the outburst, hammering a pinch-hit three-run homer to left center as the lead exploded to 10-5.

Stokes Jr. crushed a solo homer to left field in the top of the eighth, adding one more to the prolific offensive attack.

High Point plated an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth, but Nelvin Correa got the Revs five outs from the bullpen and J.P. Woodward secured the final out of the eighth.

Andrew Gross tossed a scoreless ninth to close out the huge win.

Notes: The offensive output is the Revs’ largest ever in a single game at Truist Point. Mendoza tied a club record with four extra-base hits and three doubles while leading the way with four RBI; he added to his league lead in doubles, becoming the league’s first to 20 two-baggers on the year. Mendoza also now has 50 RBI in 50 games played for the season. It was his second four-hit game of the year and his third game with at least four RBI. Giambrone doubled and homered for the second straight game and has now hit safely in 10 straight, his second double-digit hitting streak of the year. Stokes Jr.’s homer was his eighth of the year and fifth in the past three weeks since returning from injury. Martin’s pinch-hit homer was just the ninth in Revs franchise history. Martinez’ start was his 60th in a Revs uniform, tying Duke von Schamann for fifth-most in club history. The comeback win is the 18th for the Revs and their eighth when trailing heading into the seventh inning; their six-run seventh inning increases their league lead for seventh inning scoring, now with 63 runs on the season. Rhinesmith now has a 19-game on-base streak.
