(August 11, 2026 – Central Islip, NY): The York Revolution turned the third triple play in franchise history, got a grand slam from Brian Rey, two homers by Jacob Teter, and a broken bat home run by Shed Long Jr. in a 12-8 victory over the Long Island Ducks on Tuesday night at Fairfield Properties Ballpark. It all came in the milestone 2,500th game in franchise history as the Revs claimed their 1,295th victory all-time, all the while matching their largest first place lead of the season at 5.5 games in the North Division.
York trailed early as Long Island opened the game with four consecutive singles to produce a pair of runs, but Revs starter Julian Costa set down three in-a-row in a quick about-face, and the Revs took the lead for good with a six-run second.
Austin Bates got the Revs on the board with his league-leading 10th sac fly and Nick Dunn took a bases loaded walk from Ducks starter Ryan Cardona (3-3) to tie the score. Rey followed by blasting his second grand slam of the season on a deep drive to left center, propelling the Revs to a 6-2 lead.
The Revs made history in the bottom of the second. After a pair of singles to start the inning, Long Jr. fielded Alsander Womack’s grounder to third and alertly stepped on the bag. Dunn made a great turn at second, picking the throw and relaying to first for the third triple play in Revs history and their second all-time in the infield as Costa was out of the inning in the blink of an eye.
Jackson Ross (3-for-4) bombed a homer off the video board in left center to start the third as the lead grew to 7-2.
Anthony Garcia capped a ten-pitch battle with a two-run homer to left center in the bottom of the third, cutting York’s lead to 7-4.
York’s defense again stole the show as Drew Ramirez made a great diving backhand play on Marcus Chiu’s grounder in the third, Bates threw out Jacob Robson attempting to steal third base in the fourth inning, and Tomo Otosaka made a terrific sliding grab in center in the fifth, helping Costa navigate the middle innings with the lead.
Teter launched a homer to right field with two outs in the sixth, and in a jaw-dropping feat, Long Jr. cracked his bat in half on a homer down the right field line, carrying only the handle with him toward first base as the duo went back-to-back for a 9-4 lead.
Long Island plated a pair on a Robson triple and a passed ball in the sixth, but Costa (7-2) struck out Jorge Bonifacio for the second time to close his outing before Shane Gray entered to whiff a pair of batters to finish the inning.
The Revs added three more in the seventh. Otosaka came across on a wild pitch and Rey picked up his fifth RBI on a sac fly to shallow center, plating Dunn whose hustle turned it into a run. Teter capped the scoring with a gargantuan homer to right, a 457-foot blast for his second of the game, the league’s fifth longest this season and second longest by a Revs hitter.
The Ducks put up an unearned run on a double play in the bottom of the seventh but Ryan Shreve otherwise took care of his assignment.
Brendan Collins logged his sixth scoreless outing in seven appearances, striking out Womack to strand two in the eighth.
Wilmer Difo connected on a homer to right in the bottom of the ninth which preceded a pair of walks, but closer Josh Mollerus quickly righted the ship to retire the final three, closing out the win.
York improves to 61-35, a season-best 26 games over .500, while running their second half record to an incredible 26-7. They have won 18 of the last 22 and 23 of 28 games, while having also won 13 of the last 14 on the road.
Notes: The triple play is the Revs’ first since June 19, 2024 vs Hagerstown when right fielder Donovan Casey caught a fly ball and tossed back in to Matt McDermott who relayed to David Washington erasing a pair of runners who failed to tag up. It is the second infield triple play in Revs history along with another 5-4-3 effort on September 12, 2018 vs the Road Warriors started by third baseman Henry Castillo and turned by second baseman Alexi Casilla to first baseman Telvin Nash. Rey’s grand slam is his second of the season; his five RBI give him 96 for the year including the suspended game from August 2 (stats not yet final), as he ties Casey and Washington for fifth most in a season in team history, just 11 shy of Chris Nowak’s franchise record (107). Teter’s two-homer game is his second of the year as he takes the team lead with 21 round trippers. Teter’s 94 RBI are ninth most in a season in team history and third most in the league, just behind Rey. Teter’s 92 runs are ninth most in a season. Teter has the second (457 feet on Tuesday) and third longest (452 feet on July 24 at Lancaster) homers by a Revs batter this season, trailing only Brandon Lewis’ 460-foot shot vs Hagerstown on May 29. Otosaka scored twice, giving him 94 runs (43 in the second half), tying Eric Patterson (2014) for seventh in Revs history. Dunn doubled twice, tying Rey for the league lead with 30 doubles. Dunn now has a 45-game on-base streak, tied with Nate Espy (2007) for second longest in Revs history, trailing only Carlos Franco who had a 50-gamer in 2022. Long Jr. has a 12-game hitting streak; his homer is his 10th and the RBI is his league-leading 44th since joining the Revs on July 7. Bates has caught four runners attempting to steal and has a pickoff over his last four starts. The Revs set an Atlantic League record, scoring in double figures for the 31st time this season.
Roster Moves: York added RHP Trey Braithwaite who spent most of the season with Hagerstown; the Winchester, VA native was a 16th round pick of the Cincinnati Reds in 2022 out of West Virginia University and spent four years at the United State Naval Academy where he is the program’s all-time saves leader. He reached Double-A Chattanooga in 2024 and owned a 1.93 ERA with Chicago in the American Association last year. York also signed catcher Juan Gonzalez who hit .257 in 21 games for Lexington this season after beginning the year at Double-A Birmingham with the Chicago White Sox; he has reached the Triple-A level with both the White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays organizations. York released RHP Zach Sabers and catcher Cole Griffith.
