(July 19, 2019 – New Britain, CT):  The York Revolution slugged five home runs in a 17-5 blowout win over the New Britain Bees on Friday night at New Britain Stadium.  The win improves the Revs to 6-2 in the second half, taking over sole possession of first place in the Freedom Division standings by half a game.

York jumped to an immediate lead and led wire-to-wire in posting its second-highest run total of the season.  Justin Trapp lifted the lid on the scoring by launching a solo homer to right-center with one out in the first, and Welington Dotel added a two-out RBI single up the middle for a quick 2-0 lead.

New Britain got on the board in the bottom half courtesy of a sac fly to left by Jared James, but that was the only run allowed in the inning by Revs starter Duke von Schamann after facing a bases loaded, one-out jam on three singles.

The Revs got that run back in the second as Angelys Nina crossed the plate on a throwing error.

The Bees plated an unearned run of their own in the bottom of the third as Darren Ford came across on a double play after having moved to third base on an error.

Leading 3-2 heading to the fourth, the Revs took control of the game with a four-run fourth inning.  Nina and Trapp ripped RBI singles and Isaias Tejeda capped the outburst with a two-run knock up the middle.

That rally was bested by a five-run fifth.  Dotel led things off with an opposite field homer to right.  Ryan Dent and Nina followed with singles and Zach Sullivan drilled an RBI double to the gap in left-center.  James Skelton cleared the bases with a three-run homer down the right field line, as the lead ballooned to 12-2.

New Britain rallied for three with two outs in its half of the fifth as Jonathan Galvez drove a two-run double to right-center and another run scored on an error to make it 12-5.

Dent launched a solo homer to right in the top of the sixth, and Carlos Franco smacked a two-run double down the first base line in the seventh to extend the lead to 15-5.

Telvin Nash closed the scoring in the top of the ninth by hammering a two-run homer to right, his league-leading 26th of the season placing him in sole possession of the second-highest single-season total in Revs history, eight shy of Chris Nowak’s franchise record 34 set in 2012.

von Schamann (4-3) finished with three scoreless innings to work a season-high eight frames, picking up the win.  Only three of his five runs allowed were earned runs in the 105-pitch effort.

Phil Walby closed it out for the Revs with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

Notes: The Revs have won 10 of their last 11 series openers.  York is in sole possession of first place for the first time since July 15, 2018, six games into last season’s second half.  All five of York’s home runs were hit to right field with four being opposite field shots from right-handed batters.  Prior to this season, the Revs had only hit five or more homers in a game three times with the last occurring in 2010; Friday marked the second time this season the Revs have accomplished the feat, along with a six-home run game vs. High Point on June 10.  The five homers are tied for third-most in a game in club history.  York is now tied for the league-lead in home runs (85) with High Point.  The Revs improve to 4-1 on the current road trip including a three-game winning streak over the last two days.  York has hit 13 home runs on the first five games of the road trip, and has tied a franchise record with a home run in 12 consecutive games (25 home runs total).  The Revs’ other 12-game homer streak came May 2-14, 2016.  The Revs have scored 15 or more three times this season, all since June 30.  The Revs have won 15 of 18 overall and are now 27-7 since June 10.  They have also won 10 of their last 12 road games and 14 of the last 17.  York will go for an 11th consecutive series win on Saturday night as righty Corey Walter (3-3, 4.22) faces Bees right-hander Akeel Morris (2-1, 4.32) at 6:35 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and WOYK on YouTube beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
