(July 27, 2018) – Logan Williamson was brilliant over seven innings as the York Revolution won for the third time in two nights, kicking off an important seven-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters with a 4-1 victory on Friday night in front of 4,993 fans at Constellation Field. The Revs improve to 9-7 in the second half, moving within 1.5 games of Sugar Land for first place.
York struck first with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Melky Mesa led off with a single to left, and with one out, Jose Cuevas reached on an error by shortstop Alvaro Rondon. Travis Witherspoon singled to left to load the bases, setting up Henry Castillo for a sac fly to left, giving York a 1-0 lead.
Williamson limited the Skeeters to just two hits over the first four innings, but Sugar Land used three singles to produce a run in the fifth with Rondon driving in the equalizer on a grounder through the right side. Alexi Casilla made a great diving play to rob Juan Silverio of a potential RBI hit on a ground ball to second to end the inning, keeping the score tied.
The Revs went right back in front in the sixth, rallying with two outs. Witherspoon reached on a strike out-wild pitch to keep the inning alive, and promptly raced all the way home from first base as Castillo ripped a tiebreaking triple to the gap in right-center for his second go-ahead RBI of the night. Luis Cruz followed with an RBI single to right, giving York a 3-1 lead.
Mesa led off the seventh with a single and scored from first on Witherspoon's two-out double to deep left-center, extending the lead to 4-1.
Williamson (4-2) retired eight of his final nine, limiting the Skeeters to one run on six hits in a season-high seven innings to earn the win. He walked none and struck out two.
After a leadoff walk to Barrett Barnes in the eighth, reliever Michael Click set down the next two batters. Junior Rincon entered and walked Courtney Hawkins, but retired Matt Chavez, who was representing the tying run, on a fly ball to right.
Grant Sides struck out the side for his 10th save of the season in the bottom of the ninth.
Notes: Williamson's win is the 25th of his Revs career, matching lefty Frank Gailey for third on the franchise's all-time list. Williamson worked seven innings for the first time since August 19, 2017 in a start at Sugar Land. Williamson has allowed just three earned runs in 25.1 innings over his last five outings (four starts) dating to June 29. The win snapped a 12-game home winning streak for the Skeeters, the league's longest this season. It was Sugar Land's first home loss since June 26 vs. Lancaster.
