(July 28, 2017 – New Britain, Ct.): The York Revolution rolled to a series-opening win, 8-1 over the New Britain Bees on Friday evening in front of 3,029 fans at New Britain Stadium. The Revs have won four of their last five, and improve to 12-9 in the second half, pulling within 1.5 games of first place.
The Revs jumped ahead early as Telvin Nash ripped an RBI double down the left field line with two outs in the first. It plated Isaias Tejeda who had advanced to second on a fielder’s choice while Alonzo Harris kept a rundown alive, allowing him to do so.
Chase Simpson kept the second inning alive with a two-out single to right. Harris and Alexi Casilla would capitalize, following with RBI singles to increase the lead to 3-0.
Casilla nailed a two-run double off the fence in left-center in the top of the fourth, giving the Revs a 5-0 lead as the York second baseman tied his season-high with three RBI on the night, one night after seeing his 23-game hitting streak end.
Nash crushed a towering home run to left-center to lead off the fifth, his second in four games since returning to York, and the 30th of his Revs career as the lead grew to 6-0.
York starter Steve Janas, the team leader in quality starts (8), earned his first win since April 28, limiting New Britain to one run on five hits in five innings. Janas (2-5) stranded seven runners, including a one-out triple by Yusuke Kajimoto in the third, and allowed his only run on a two-out wild pitch in the fifth.
Tejeda launched a home run to left in the sixth inning, taking the team lead with his 12th of the year and extending the margin to 7-1.
Jared Mitchell scored York’s final run in the seventh, reaching on a one-out walk, stealing second, and scoring on a pair of wild pitches.
The Revs scored in six of the game’s first seven innings while racking up 13 hits on the night. Harris led the way going 4-for-5 with a double, tying a Revs’ season-high for hits in a game by a batter. Nash enjoyed a 3-for-5 night.
Luke Westphal struck out three batters in two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, while Michael Click and Joe Van Meter each tossed a scoreless frame to finish the victory.
Bees starter Nick Greenwood (1-3) was charged with six runs (three earned) over five innings in the loss.
Notes: The Revs have allowed exactly one run in each of their last four victories. York has scored eight or more runs four times in the last eight games. The Revs are three games over .500 for the first time all season. York has also won eight of its last 12 overall. Harris is the first Revs batter to record four hits in a game since Tejeda and Travis Witherspoon both did it exactly one month earlier, June 28 in a victory at Bridgeport; Ryan Dent also had a four-hit game on June 11 vs. Lancaster.
