(August 13, 2026 – Central Islip, NY): Brian Rey tied the game with a two-run homer in the eighth and Devonte Brown put the Revs ahead with a leadoff homer in the ninth, but the York Revolution saw the comeback bid come undone in a 7-6 loss in 10 innings to the Long Island Ducks on Thursday night at Fairfield Properties Ballpark. The Revs’ four-game winning streak is halted as they fall to 62-36 overall and 27-8 in the second half as their first place lead is now 5.5 games.
York trailed 5-2 heading to the eighth with the task of facing the vaunted back end of the Ducks’ bullpen.
Tomo Otosaka sparked things with a leadoff single to center against setup man Rafael Kelly. After a stolen base, Otosaka came around to score on Nick Dunn’s single to right as the Revs quickly brought the tying run to the plate. Rey came through with a dramatic game-tying two-run homer to left center as the Revs, held without a hit since the third inning, suddenly tied the game at 5-5 stunning the Ducks faithful.
Rookie Tommy Ellisen worked a 1-2-3 eighth with his first two career strikeouts, and Brown greeted Ducks closer Ramon Santos with a towering first pitch homer to left in the top of the ninth, flipping the game in York’s favor at 6-5.
Brendan Collins quickly set down the first two in the bottom of the ninth, but Wilmer Difo gave the Ducks new life with a game-tying two-out homer to right, forcing extras with a 6-6 tie.
Shed Long Jr. made a bid at giving the Revs a tenth inning lead, busting it down the line to beat a tricky grounder toward third but Long was called out by first base umpire Vinny Mariani prompting an argument from the Revs as the game remained tied.
In a cruel dose of irony, Anthony Garcia legged out a bang-bang play at first for an infield single to start the bottom of the tenth. After a hit by pitch loaded the bases, Jorge Bonifacio put an end to the proceedings with a walk-off single through the left side of the infield.
Prior to the late innings, most of the offense came in the opening frame.
York jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the first against Ducks starter Nick Margevicius who had walked just one batter in his first five starts. Otosaka doubled that total with a leadoff walk, and singles from Dunn and Rey loaded the bases for Jacob Teter who wore a fastball in the ribs to force in the game’s first run. Long Jr. added a sac fly to center for a 2-0 lead.
Garcia jumped the Ducks ahead 3-2 with a three-run homer to right, three batters into the bottom of the first.
Revs starter Shawn Rapp battled his way through the next two innings with a pair of double plays and nearly got through the fourth scoreless following a pickoff of Alsander Womack, but Rene Pinto connected on a solo homer down the left field line to make it a 4-2 game.
Scott Borgmann worked a 1-2-3 fifth with a pair of great plays at shortstop from Drew Ramirez.
Womack singled home a run against lefty Keyshawn Askew in the sixth, but Trey Braithwaite rolled the Revs’ third double play of the game in a scoreless seventh to make his Revs debut, keeping the game within reach.
Margevicius retired his final 14 batters, holding York to two runs on four hits in seven innings before the late inning theatrics unfolded.
Notes: Brown’s homer was his 10th of the year and first since July 3; he is now 6-for-11 with five walks and seven RBI on the current road trip. Otosaka scored twice, tying Jared Mitchell (193) for 10th on the Revs’ career list; his 96 runs this season are second-most in the league and seventh in a season in Revs history. Dunn (3-for-5) extended his hitting streak to nine games and his on-base streak to 47 in-a-row, second longest in Revs history and fifth longest on record in league history. Rey’s two-run homer gives him 98 RBI (second most in the league) including the August 2 suspended game as he moves past Chad Tracy (97) for fourth most RBI in a season in club history, just nine away from the record. Teter picked up his 95th RBI, tying Carlos Franco (2022) for eighth. Long Jr. lost a 13-game hitting streak but picked up his 46th RBI in just 32 games since joining the team, continuing the most torrid run producing start to a season in league history. Borgmann has tossed three scoreless innings since returning from the IL. Collins allowed just his second run and only his fourth hit in eight outings. York falls to 2-6 in extra innings (0-3 vs Long Island). They are just 2-9 in walk-offs and 9-14 in last at-bat finals. They are 1-6 when trailing after eight innings.
