(August 9, 2026 – Hagerstown, Md.):  The York Revolution claimed the final two games of their weekend series, winning 8-5 in Sunday afternoon’s rubber match over the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars at Meritus Park.

Tomo Otosaka returned to the lineup after a two-game absence and slugged the second pitch of the day over the wall in right for his ninth homer of the season and the fifth leadoff home run of his Revs career, tying a franchise record.

In an ironic twist, Jared Carr did the same for his team, cracking the first pitch out to left center for a leadoff homer of his own, tying the score at 1-1.

After a walk and a single, Revs lefty Brendan Yagesh quickly settled in with a pair of strikeouts including a double play when catcher Austin Bates nailed Leobaldo Cabrera at third for his first of two caught stealings on the afternoon.

Yagesh retired seven in-a-row until Cabrera connected on a homer to left with two outs in the third, and Robert Brooks added a solo homer to right center in the fourth as the Boxcars held a 3-1 lead.

The Revs had been held in check by Boxcars starter Robbie Baker (5-4) since the first inning, but that changed when Bates drilled his second double of the game to deep left center and went to third on an error to ignite a game-changing rally in the fifth. Otosaka quickly ripped a single up the middle to plate Bates. Brian Rey later doubled to right putting two in scoring position, and following a two-out intentional walk to Shed Long Jr. that loaded the bases, Jackson Ross delivered the game’s biggest hit, banging a bases emptying three-run triple off the wall in right center as the Revs took a 5-3 lead.

Otosaka added an RBI single to left center in the sixth, and the lead grew to 7-3 in the seventh when Ross nailed his second triple of the day off the center field fence and scored when Drew Ramirez sprayed an RBI single to right over a drawn-in infield.

Denny Bentley and Keyshawn Askew protected the lead with scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh, respectively.

Dalton Bargo closed the gap with a two-run double to right center off reliever Tyler Thornton in the eighth, shrinking the lead to 7-5.

Mike Rosario tacked on an insurance run for the Revs with a sac fly to center field in the ninth, scoring Long Jr. who led off with an infield single and stole his second bag of the day.

Josh Mollerus nailed down the win with a scoreless ninth for his seventh save.

Yagesh (1-0) earned his first pro victory, allowing three runs, all on solo homers, over five innings of work. He only surrendered two other hits, and struck out a career-high six including a clutch punch out to end his outing when he got Darick Hall on a check swing to strand two in scoring position in the fifth, maintaining a two-run lead at the time.

The Revs improve to a league-best 60-35 and maintain their 4.5-game lead for first place, now 25-7 in the second half.

Notes: York picks up its first series win against Hagerstown this season, closing the regular season series with a 7-8 mark and a 6-6 record at Meritus Park. The Revs have won 17 of their last 21 games and 22 of the last 27. They are 28-7 since June 30. They have also won 12 of the last 13 on the road. Sunday marked the 2,499th regular season game in franchise history. Otosaka joins Scott Grimes, Justin Greene, Alonzo Harris, and Trent Giambrone as Revs career leaders with five leadoff home runs; it is his third game-opening leadoff homer this season. It is the second time this season that both teams have led off the first inning with a homer (July 16 vs Staten Island). Ross becomes the fifth player in Revs history to triple twice in a game, joining Kennard Jones (2008), James Shanks (2010), Eric Patterson (twice in 2014), and Matt McDermott who was the most recent to do it on May 4, 2024 at High Point. Brian Rey doubled three times, tying a Revs single-game record that has been done 19 times including three times this season (Brandon Lewis, April 22 vs Lancaster and Otosaka, July 30 vs Lexington). Nick Dunn’s infield single in the sixth extended his on-base streak to 44 games in-a-row, third longest in Revs history and one shy of the number-two mark; only Carlos Franco (50 games in 2022) and Nate Espy (45 games in 2007) have had longer streaks in Revs history. The 44-gamer is the league’s second longest this year and the sixth longest on record in league history. Bates has thrown out at least one runner in three consecutive starts (three caught stealing, one pickoff). Thornton debuted after signing earlier in the day; the 26-year-old pitched in the Mexican League with Durango this season and is a former 17^th round pick of the Cleveland Indians out of Arizona State (2021). Thornton went 13-3 with 13 saves and a 3.72 ERA over four seasons in the Indians / Guardians organization, spending most of the past three seasons with Double-A Akron.
