BOX SCORE

The York Revolution coupled another strong start from Jay Gause with an offensive outburst at the plate, totaling 17 hits including three home runs in a 9-1 rout of the Bridgeport Bluefish on Tuesday night in front of 3,590 fans at PeoplesBank Park.  The Revs improve to 10-8 in the second half, remaining within one game of first place.

Bridgeport was the first to strike, scoring an unearned run in the top of the first. Following a Luis Hernandez single up the middle, Jose Cuevas reached on an error by Ryan Dent at shortstop. Later in the inning with the sacks full, Daniel Fields walked to force in a run, making it 1-0.

The Revs would get on the board in the third inning. Alexi Casilla was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame and came around to score when Michael Burgess bounced into a double play, tying the game at 1-1. Telvin Nash singled with two outs for his first hit since re-signing with York earlier in the day, and Jared Mitchell launched a towering home run to straightaway right to put the Revs on top 3-1. It was Mitchell’s seventh home run of the season and fourth in the last 12 games.

The Revs continued to produce with two outs in the fifth inning when Nash blasted a home run to left-center field to make it 4-1. Mitchell followed with a triple and came around to score as Carlos Triunfel singled through the left side to make it 5-1. Triunfel had two hits in the game and extended his hitting streak to nine in a row.

Travis Witherspoon led off the sixth with a single and Alonzo Harris launched his ninth home run of the season over the Arch Nemesis in left, pushing the Revs advantage to 7-1. Casilla followed with a hit, his second of the day to knock Bluefish starter Rainy Lara from the contest. Casilla extended his hitting streak to 22 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the Atlantic League.

York padded the lead further in the seventh.  Mitchell singled to lead off the frame, finishing the night by reaching base four times and coming within a double of the cycle. Two batters later, Dent poked a two strike pitch to right field to bring in Mitchell, and increase the lead to 8-1.

The Revs were not done. Isaias Tejeda laced a one out double to the gap in right-center in the eighth, and Burgess followed with an opposite field double off the wall in left to make it 9-1.

The first inning unearned run was all that Gause (5-1) would allow. The righty earned his fifth win in seven starts, tossing six innings and striking out two. After the first, the Revs defense was strong behind him as well, as Harris gunned down Fields trying to stretch a single into a double in the fourth, Dent made a sprawling stop for a double play in the fourth, and Triunfel flashed the leather throughout the night at third including a charging, barehanded play in the fifth.

Chase Huchingson, Ricardo Gomez, and Brad Allen each fired scoreless frames behind Gause to lock down the victory.
