(July 5, 2021 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution were denied in search of their first three-game winning streak of the season in a 4-2 loss to the Lancaster Barnstormers on Monday night at PeoplesBank Park.  The Revs settle for a four-game split and will head on the road to West Virginia for a three-game series before returning home on Friday night.

York took the early lead on back-to-back hits to start the bottom of the first. Darian Sandford slapped a line drive to center for a leadoff single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Plating Sandford, Yan Sanchez delivered a base hit to left for a 1-0 lead.

Sanchez reached safely for the third straight time on a one-out walk in the fifth and Melky Mesa moved Sanchez to third on a single to the right field line. For his league-leading 35th RBI, Carlos Castro drove in the second run of the night on a sac fly to right that was caught in foul territory, giving York a 2-0 lead.

After being held to two hits in their first five innings at the plate by Revs starter Austin Nicely, Lancaster scored four unearned runs in the sixth. Caleb Gindl led off the inning by reaching on a Revs fielding error. Blake Allemand hit his seventh double of the year on a drive to left, moving Gindl to third.  With one out, Trayvon Robinson plated Gindl on an infield hit on which the Revs failed to cover first base. That started a string of four straight batters collecting RBIs for Lancaster. Alejandro De Aza plated Allemand on a ground out, LeDarious Clark doubled home Robinson, and Anderson De La Rosa singled to right for the final run of the inning and a 4-2 lead.

Down two in the ninth, York was able to get their first two hitters to reach against Lancaster closer Scott Shuman as Lenin Rodriguez walked on four pitches and Sandford capped a 10-pitch at-bat with a line drive single to left-center.  Shuman settled in to induce a ground ball double play and a game-ending pop-up, however, as the Revs’ frustrations at the plate totaled 10 left on base for the evening and a 1-for-11 mark with runners in scoring position.

York hits the road for the three-game set at West Virginia, taking on the Power for the first time this season. Austin Steinfort (1-3) will start on Tuesday night for York. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM, 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and the WOYK YouTube channel beginning at 5:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.

Notes: Monday’s game was Revs manager Mark Mason’s 1,000th regular season game as York manager.  Alberto Rodriguez worked two scoreless innings and has totaled 3.1 scoreless frames the last two nights; it was his league-leading 18th appearance.  JC Encarnacion went 2-for-4 with a double, extending his hitting streak to nine games.  James Harris went 3-for-4, extending his hitting streak to seven games with his first multi-hit performance with York.
