(August 8th, 2023 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution saw its seven-game winning streak against the Lancaster Barnstormers come to an end, dropping Tuesday’s series opener 7-3 at WellSpan Park.

York got a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning off the bat of Trent Giambrone that started in flight toward left center but was blown back toward dead center by the wind before carrying over the batter’s eye as York led 1-0 on Giambrone’s 19th of the year. Troy Stokes Jr. singled with one out, was moved to third on a Drew Mendoza single to right field, and was brought home by a Nellie Rodriguez fielder’s choice ground out for York’s second run to go up 2-0.

The Barnstormers got a run in the third inning on a ground out by Andretty Cordero cutting the York lead to 2-1.

Lancaster took the lead in the top of the fourth on a two-run single to right by Melvin Mercedes with the bases loaded, making it a 3-2 advantage for the visitors.

Shawon Dunston Jr. corked an RBI triple into the right field corner with two outs in the fifth, increasing Lancaster’s edge to 4-2.

York cut it to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth as Giambrone doubled off the left field Arch Nemesis and Tomo Otosaka traded places with him with an RBI double down the left field line.

Revs starter J.T. Hintzen (7-5) fired five innings, giving up four runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Will McAffer tossed a scoreless sixth inning, striking out a pair to keep it a one-run score.

Momentum turned in Lancaster’s favor for good as Alejandro Rivero came just short of a potential go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, and the Barnstormers put up three runs in the top of the seventh.

Lancaster got to reliever Nelvin Correa who walked Ariel Sandoval and gave up a single to Wilson Garcia with one out. After a strikeout for the second out, lefty Zach Neff was called upon to get lefty batter Dunston Jr., but the Lancaster centerfielder pulled a home run to right field, a three-run shot, running the score up to 7-3 Lancaster.

Emilker Guzman was solid in the eighth, setting down Lancaster after walking one. J.P. Woodward pitched the top of the ninth and gave up a single but nothing else.

Lancaster kept the Revs from mounting any comeback efforts, however, as after six innings of starter Brent Teller (9-4), the trio of Zach Warren, Nick Duron, and Mike Adams each worked scoreless frames in relief to close it out.

Notes: York is now 9-4 in the season’s War of the Roses series and needs two wins with eight matchups remaining to claim the Community Cup. The seven-game winning streak matched the 2010 Revs for longest in series history and came one shy of matching a Revs club record for longest winning streak in a season series against any opponent. York has homered in 10 consecutive games, totaling 20 long balls on that stretch. Giambrone’s leadoff home run was his fourth to start a game this season, one shy of matching Justin Greene (2014) for the Revs season record and two others for the career record. Otosaka (2-for-4) extended his hitting streak to seven consecutive games with a third straight multi-hit effort. York righty Tom Sutera (7-4, 7.02) starts Wednesday’s contest and will be opposed by lefty Jared Lakind (6-3, 3.23) at 6:30 p.m. It is National Night Out presented by AARP, Wing Wednesday catered by Jen Heasley from Cooking with the Pros/Sweet Mama’s Mambo Sauce, Winning Wednesday presented by PA Lottery, and Bark in the Park presented by Cover Six Canines. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.
