BOX SCORE

The York Revolution and Lancaster Barnstormers met for the first time this season on Friday night, the latest in a season that the teams have commenced a War of the Roses series, and the Barnstormers jumped out early and often defeating the Revs, 8-0 in front of 4,236 fans at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Lancaster scored two in the bottom of the first as a single by Darian Sandford and a walk to Rico Noel set the table. The two then teamed up for a double steal, and then scored on an RBI groundout by Caleb Gindl and a single to right by K.C. Hobson, respectively, as Lancaster took a 2-0 lead.

Frank Gailey (5-3) encountered his toughest start for the Revs this season, lasting just 3.1 innings as he was touched for five earned runs on five hits and five walks.

Trayvon Robinson led off the second with a solo home run to left field to make it 3-0.

Gailey had seemed to settle in but Garret Weber sparked things with a triple in the fourth, and the three hitters behind him all worked walks with Sandford’s forcing home a run, which would end the night for the Revs’ starter.  Another run came home on a Noel groundout to increase Lancaster’s lead to 5-0.

At the plate, the Revs were stymied by lefty Jarret Leverett (3-0) who tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and a walk. He combined with three Barnstormer relievers for the shutout, as the Revs were unable to get a runner past second base on the night.

The Barnstormers would add two runs in the sixth on an infield hit by Sandford and a Noel double, and one more in the seventh on a Hobson homer to right as they tallied a total of ten hits in the ballgame.

For the Revs at the plate, Travis Witherspoon and Luis Cruz each had two-hit nights, but the Revs had just eight baserunners all night and failed to get more than two men on in the same inning. The Revs have now lost three in-a-row for the fifth time this season, and scored less than four runs for the fifth time in six games.

The teams will meet up Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. for the second game of the four-game series. The Revs will send right hander Victor Mateo (0-4, 4.21) to the hill to face off with former Rev Brad Bergesen (3-2, 3.75). Revs fans can catch Darrell Henry and Matt Present on the air from Clipper Magazine Stadium at 6:10 p.m. on WOYK 1350, as well as online at woyk1350.com and the WOYK App.
