(August 10, 2019 – High Point, NC): The high-powered York Revolution offense was silenced on Saturday night, falling 6-1 to the High Point Rockers at BB&T Point. The Revs have suffered back-to-back series losses for the first time since early June and will look to avoid a sweep on Sunday afternoon.
The Revs plated the game’s first run in the top of the first inning. Telvin Nash extended his on-base streak to 26 consecutive games with a two-out double down the third base line, his league-leading 31st of the year, and scored as Isaias Tejeda struck an 0-2 pitch to the gap in right-center for his 30th double of the year, plating Nash for a 1-0 lead.
High Point rallied for its second four-run inning in as many nights, sending eight men to the plate to build a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first. After loading the bases with one out, the Rockers cashed in as Richie Shaffer cracked a two-run double to the gap in right-center. Michael Russell followed with an RBI bloop base hit to right, and Viosergy Rosa brought home the fourth run on a fielder’s choice grounder to second.
High Point added on in the fourth with three singles in the inning as Stephen Cardullo drove in Rosa to make it 5-1, and tacked on another run in the sixth inning on a two-out RBI double down the left field line by Hector Gomez.
Rockers starter Chris Pennell (2-1) kept the Revs off balance, not allowing a hit after the third as the righty worked six innings of one-run ball. He overcame four walks and five early hits while striking out three.
Ashur Tolliver worked a scoreless seventh and eighth out of the High Point bullpen, and Dusty Isaacs closed it out with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Revs starter Duke von Schamann (6-4) settled down after the four-run first but suffered the loss, charged with five runs in five innings of work. Robert Carson allowed one run in the sixth, while Josh Smoker made his Revs debut with a scoreless seventh and Orleny Quiroz handled a scoreless eighth.
York righty Ricky Schafer (1-1, 6.48) faces High Point right-hander Michael Bowden (1-1, 1.80) on Sunday at 2 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, WOYK on YouTube, and The New WOYK app beginning at 1:40 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
