(July 1, 2023 – High Point, NC):  The York Revolution were silenced offensively, falling 5-1 to the High Point Rockers on Saturday evening at Truist Point. The loss evens the series in North Carolina, and more importantly knocks the Revs out of first place as they sit half a game behind Long Island with seven to play in the first half race.

High Point built a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Dai-Kang Yang singled to start the inning and Beau Taylor doubled down the right field line to establish a big threat. Ryan Grotjohn was hit by a pitch as the first three batters all reached. One by one, the next three batters drove in each runner as Ben Aklinski started the scoring with a sac fly to center, Brian Parreira rolled an RBI single into right, and John Daly plated one more on a fielder’s choice.

That was more than enough run support for High Point starter Mickey Jannis (8-1) who tossed six scoreless frames to earn his league-leading eighth win. The knuckleballer walked three and struck out three, keeping the Revs off balance throughout the night.

Revs starter Nick Raquet (6-5) rebounded with scoreless frames in the third, fourth, and sixth, but High Point added another run on a Zander Wiel double to left center in the bottom of the fifth and the Rockers plated their final run of the evening when Michael Russell homered to left center off J.T. Hintzen in the bottom of the seventh.

High Point’s bullpen combined to strike out all six hitters in the seventh and eighth as A.J. Cole and Jameson McGrane both struck out the side.

The Revs finally broke up the shutout bid with a run on three hits against Jeremy Rhoades in the top of the ninth. Troy Stokes Jr. led off with a single to left and Drew Mendoza ripped his league-leading 17th double on a ground rule shot down the right field line. With one out, Jacob Rhinesmith pounded an RBI single into left, forcing High Point closer Ryan Dull into the game. Dull responded by inducing a pair of pop ups to end it, tying the league lead with his 11th save.

Victor Capellan retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth to close out the evening for the Revs pitching staff.

Notes: Mendoza reached base three times, extending his on-base streak to 29 consecutive games. Rhinesmith extended his on-base streak to 17 in-a-row. York righty Carlos Espinal (4-1, 2.25) faces High Point’s Jheyson Manzueta (0-0, 6.23) on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and FloBaseball.TV beginning at 3:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
