(July 7, 2018) – Logan Williamson won for the second time in three days and Welington Dotel blasted his second home run in as many nights as the York Revolution topped the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-2 on Saturday night at Regency Furniture Stadium, improving to 2-0 in the second half. The Revs go for a series sweep on Sunday afternoon before heading into the Atlantic League All-Star Break.
Williamson (3-2) allowed just one run over six strong innings, grabbing his second win on what is now a three-game winning streak for the Revs. The lefty entered Thursday's game in relief and picked up a victory before limiting the Crabs to six hits in Saturday's win, walking just two and striking out two.
The Revs held on as Southern Maryland threatened in the bottom of the ninth inning. York closer Grant Sides struck out the first two batters and had thrown eight consecutive strikes before issuing a two-out walk to Ryan Strausborger, just his second unintentional walk all season. Edwin Garcia followed with a single to right and moved to second on a wild pitch, placing the tying run in scoring position. Sides rebounded to strike out Craig Maddox on a 3-2 pitch to secure his seventh save, fanning the side in the process.
York struck first as Jared Mitchell opened the game with a first-pitch single and Alexi Casilla walked. Mitchell moved to third on a line out to right by Melky Mesa, setting him up to score on a wild pitch with two outs by Crabs starter Brett Marshall.
Southern Maryland responded with a pair of walks to start the home first, the only two free passes issued by Williamson all night. Williamson recorded a pair of fly outs, but Devon Rodriguez ripped a two-out RBI single to left-center, leveling the score at 1-1.
Marshall issued three walks to load the bases with two outs in the second, and committed a balk allowing Zach Wilson to score, giving York a 2-1 lead.
Marshall retired six straight before walking Mitchell to lead off the fifth. After a fielder's choice for the first out, Dotel sat back and pummeled an opposite field two-run homer to right-center, his fourth of the year, extending the lead to 4-1.
Devan Watts allowed a seventh inning run on a wild pitch but struck out a pair of batters as the Revs' lead stood at 4-2.
Jailen Peguero stranded a two-out walk in a scoreless eighth to complete the setup portion of York's bullpen effort.
Marshall (2-2) took the loss for the Crabs, allowing only three hits but walking six and giving up four runs in six innings of work.
Notes: The win is Williamson's 24th in a Revs uniform as he moves within one of matching Frank Gailey for third on the franchise's all-time list. He has allowed just one earned run in 13.1 innings over his last three appearances (two starts). Williamson has won each of his last three starts against Southern Maryland, including the Freedom Division Championship Series clincher on September 23, 2017. The Revs improve to 7-3 vs. the Blue Crabs on the season. York righty Dominic Severino (4-4, 4.93) starts Sunday's finale opposite right-hander Casey Delgado (4-5, 4.02) at 2:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, The New WOYK app, and WOYK 1350 on YouTube beginning at 1:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call. The Revs go for their first sweep of more than two games on the season; their only sweep was a two-game set at Southern Maryland, May 8-9. York's last sweep of more than two games was a three-game home sweep of Southern Maryland, September 12-14, 2017. The Revs' last three-game sweep on the road came at Southern Maryland, August 5-7, 2016.
