(August 8, 2026 – Hagerstown, Md.): Shed Long Jr. drove in five and came within a double of the cycle as the York Revolution evened their weekend series in Hagerstown with a 9-4 victory over the Flying Boxcars on Saturday night at Meritus Park.
Following a disheartening defeat the night before, the Revs rebounded right away rallying for three runs in the top of the first. Jacob Teter nailed a two-out double to the gap in left center and Long Jr. singled him home with a line drive single to left for the game’s first run. Jackson Ross sent Long Jr. racing around the bases to score on a double to the gap in right center, and a throwing error by third baseman Dalton Bargo brought home one more as the Revs jumped to a 3-0 lead.
Hagerstown got on the board as Jared Carr led off the home first with a double to left center and came around on a pair of ground outs, but it was the only run allowed through the first five innings by Revs starter Rhett Kouba who recorded 11 of his first 12 outs on the ground including double plays in the second and fourth.
Long Jr. launched a three-run homer to right in the top of the third, propelling the Revs to a 6-1 lead against Hagerstown rookie starter Nic Schutte (1-1).
Hagerstown reliever Rafael Sanchez settled things down with a scoreless fourth and fifth, but Long Jr. ripped a two-out RBI triple down the right field line in the sixth as the lead extended to 7-1.
The Boxcars chased Kouba in the sixth as Cristhian Rodriguez doubled to left center plating a run and Robert Brooks blooped a soft RBI single to shallow center. One more was charged to Kouba when Bargo ripped an RBI double to right, pulling Hagerstown within 7-4 with two in scoring position and one out. Revs reliever Scott Borgmann slammed the door, however, retiring Jordan Peyton when shortstop Drew Ramirez snagged a liner on a diving backhand catch before setting down Carr on a tapper back to the mound.
Shane Gray struck out the side in the seventh, and Ryan Shreve logged a scoreless eighth with help from catcher Austin Bates who picked off Rodriguez at third following a leadoff triple.
Mike Rosario clobbered a two-run double high off the right field fence in the top of the ninth to provide the insurance and Brendan Collins stranded a pair in a scoreless bottom half to close it out.
Notes: Long Jr. has homered in four of the last five games and has six homers in the last eight contests. He has a 10-game hitting streak and 43 total RBI in 28 games with York including last Sunday’s suspended game, tying him with Evan Edwards (High Point, 2025) for fastest in league history to 43 RBI. The Revs pounded six doubles as they lead the league with 214 doubles as a team. Ross doubled twice, tying Nick Dunn for the league lead with 28. Teter’s two doubles give him 26 on the year, two off the league lead and one behind Brian Rey’s 27 as the Revs are dominating the individual leaderboard for doubles. Dunn singled and walked, extending his on-base streak to 43 games (including last Sunday), moving past Ross for the league’s second-longest streak this season and third longest in Revs history. Ross and Rosario both extended their current on-base streaks to 21 games. Collins has been scoreless in five of his first six outings. Kouba (8-3) pulls into a tie for the league lead in wins with two others including Gray. The Revs improve to a league-best 59-35 and 24-7 in the second half as they hold a 4.5-game lead for first place in the North Division.
