(April 29, 2018) — The York Revolution responded to their first defeat of the season with an exciting 3-2 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers on Sunday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park to win the season-opening series three games to one. York trailed for most of the game but pulled ahead late for their second comeback win in the series.
Lancaster scored first on Blake Gailen’s two-out RBI double in the third off York starter Dominic Severino. The wind carried Gailen’s fly ball into the gap just past a diving Travis Witherspoon. The Barnstormers held the 1-0 lead as starter Brooks Hall faced the minimum and allowed just one hit to the Revs through three innings.
In the fourth, Anderson De La Rosa hit a wind-blown two-out solo home run just inside the right field foul pole to extend Lancaster’s lead to 2-0. It was Anderson’s and the team’s first home run this season.
The Revs came right back and cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth. Jared Mitchell led off the inning with a walk, stole second and got to third on Alexi Casilla’s infield single. Mitchell scored on Zach Wilson’s sacrifice fly to right field.
The two teams traded zeros on the scoreboard until the seventh.
Hall’s day was done after five strong innings. He allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts and left the game in line for the win.
Severino went five innings as well, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts, becoming the first Revs starter to go five innings on the young season.
Jake Ezell and Robert Carson each pitched scoreless frames in the top of the sixth and seventh, respectively, for the Revs.
In the bottom of the seventh, lefty Jared Lakind came out of the bullpen for Lancaster but only recorded two outs, exiting with runners at first and third. Right-hander Jesus Sanchez walked Ryan Dent to load the bases. Luis Cruz put the Revs ahead 3-2 on a two-out, two-RBI line drive single into center, scoring Jose Tabata and Rubi Silva. Cruz got a fastball on a 3-1 count from Sanchez and made him pay. Both runs were unearned after the Revs took advantage of an error in the inning.
Luke Westphal pitched a scoreless eighth for the Revs, who threatened to extend their lead in the bottom of the inning. York loaded the bases with no outs, but Lancaster reliever Matt Marksberry struck out Michael Burgess and Tabata back-to-back, before getting Silva to bounce into a fielder’s choice to end the inning.
The Revs called upon Junior Rincon for the save opportunity in the ninth. Rincon struck out the first two batters before allowing a two-out single to Carlos Garcia who stole second and advanced to third on Darian Sandford’s infield single. Sandford stole second to put two runners in scoring position, but Rincon beared down and stuck out Tyler Bortnick swinging to end the game, stranding the tying run on third to earn his first save of the season.
Carson (1-0) ended up with the win for the Revs while Lakind (0-1) suffered the loss for the Barnstormers, as both unearned runs that scored for the Revs in the seventh were Lakind’s responsibility.
The Revs (3-1) have an off day Monday before opening a three-game series with the Road Warriors at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night. That series features a day/night doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 11 a.m. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and at the York Revolution Ticket Office.
