(July 20, 2018) — Jared Mitchell’s seventh-inning single was the difference in the York Revolution’s 1-0 win over the Sugar Land Skeeters on Friday night at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs are now 6-5 in the second half and one game back of Sugar Land for first place in the Freedom Division.

The game was a pitcher’s duel from the start and remained scoreless through six innings as Revs starter Dominic Severino and Skeeters starter James Russell matched zeros on the scoreboard.

Russell worked six innings giving up no runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Severino worked into the sixth but left the game with an apparent injury after throwing four pitches in the inning. The Revs' righty went five plus innings allowing no runs on two hits with no strikeouts and three walks.

Jailen Peguero took over for Severino in the sixth and pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Ricardo Gomez was the next man out of the bullpen and pitched a scoreless seventh inning with two strikeouts.

With the game still scoreless in the bottom of the seventh, Travis Witherspoon singled off Skeeters reliever Vicente Campos with two outs and advanced to second base on a balk. Mitchell cashed him in with a two-strike line-drive single to left to break the scoreless tie and give the Revs a 1-0 lead. It was Mitchell’s third hit of the game and fourth time reaching base safely.

Junior Rincon held the lead with a scoreless eighth inning, retiring the Skeeters in order with two strikeouts.

Grant Sides was called on for the ninth and locked down the 1-0 win with two strikeouts en route to his ninth save of the season.

Gomez (2-1) earned the win while Campos (0-1), who gave up the only run of the game, suffered the loss.

Notes: The win was the Revs’ 11th regular season 1-0 win in franchise history (12th including playoffs). Their last 1-0 win came on July 2nd, 2017; Gomez was the winning pitcher in that game as well. It was the Revs' fifth regular season 1-0 win at PeoplesBank Park. It was also the Revs’ eighth shutout win of the season and second of the second half. Four Revs relievers combined for eight strikeouts and no hits allowed over four scoreless innings; each reliever had two strikeouts. Peguero extended his scoreless-inning streak to 10.0 innings and has not allowed a run over his last seven appearances. Gomez has struck out at least two batters in 11 of his last 12 outings over 12.2 innings; Friday marked his 310th career Atantic League appearance, one shy of matching Ben Grezlovski for second in league history. Mitchell collected his fifth three-hit game and eighth game-winning RBI this season, both team highs.
