(August 22nd, 2023 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution’s turbulent month of August continued, dropping the opening game of a 10-game homestand, 14-4 to the Lancaster Barnstormers on Tuesday evening at WellSpan Park. It is the fifth straight defeat for the Revs who fall to a season-high 4.5 games back in the division.

The Revs had Pedro Vasquez going against Nile Ball for Lancaster, which was the same matchup as the last home game in York where the Revs won 9-6 on August 10.

Lancaster got a leadoff home run to right from Melvin Mercedes on the third pitch of the game in the top of the first inning, making it 1-0 Lancaster right away.

The Barnstormers opened the lead to 4-0 in the third as leadoff hits from Mercedes and Yeison Coca set the table for Andretty Cordero who drove an RBI double toward the corner in right. Another run came home on a wild pitch, and Ariel Sandoval bounced a grounder to short, bringing home one more.

The Revs cut it to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth as Drew Mendoza led off with a double to left, moved to third on a Trey Martin single to center, and scored on a double steal when Martin swiped second, drawing a throw on which Mendoza broke for the plate and slid home safely to beat the relay.

Lancaster blew it open in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on six hits. Cordero and Wilson Garcia provided RBI singles and the outburst was capped by a Joseph Carpenter three run homer to left field making it 9-1.

York got three back with a rally of its own as RBI hits by Jacob Rhinesmith and Mendoza preceded an RBI fielder’s choice on which Richard Urena beat out a potential double play ball as York pulled within 9-4.

In the seventh inning, reliever Nick Parker, who glided through the sixth, was touched for five runs on five hits; allowing four doubles (Sandoval, Garcia, Carpenter, Jack Conley) as Lancaster blew the game open with a 14-4 lead.

The Revs got scoreless outings in relief by Emilker Guzman, Zach Neff and infielder Alexis Pantoja in the ninth but were unable to put a dent in the steep deficit.

Vasquez (7-2) suffered the loss, snapping his five-decision winning streak. Coming off seven scoreless innings on just two hits in his previous start, he was charged with nine runs on 11 hits in five innings of work.

York’s quest to claim the Community Cup and a win in the season’s War of the Roses series is delayed as the series lead for the Revs is now 10-6.

Revs righty Andrew Cabezas (1-3, 5.20) will face Lancaster right-hander Jeff Bain (4-2, 4.15) on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.  It is a Winning Wednesday presented by PA Lottery and Bark in the Park presented by Cover Six Canines. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.
