Sikes doubled home two runs, Stephen Paolini knocked a two-run single up the middle, and Jackson Loftin (3-for-6) added his own two-run hit up the middle as part of the outburst. Darden drove in the final run on a single after beginning the inning with a double, as the Revs fell victim to their biggest inning allowed since a seven-run frame on August 2 vs Lexington.
York continued to make noise offensively with a historic twist in the fifth. Nick Dunn led off the inning with a single to center, tying Andres Perez (2012) for fifth in Revs history with his 161st hit of the year. Brian Rey smoked a double down the third base line, tying the Revs single-season record held by James Shanks (2010) with his 172nd hit of the season. Teter drilled a two-run double to right, surging ahead of Rey (119) for the franchise record with 121 RBI on the season, tied for fourth most in league history and eight shy of the league’s all-time record. Having chased Blue Crabs starter Anthony Borrero, the Revs added one more on Shed Long Jr.’s single to center off reliever Donovan Burke.
Southern Maryland provided the final scoring as Darden (4-for-6, four RBI) capped his huge night with a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the sixth.
Revs starter Rhett Kouba (9-6) suffered the loss, charged with eight runs (six earned) in three-plus innings. Right-hander Tommy Ellisen was also reached for six runs in the big fourth.
Lefty Justin Lovell debuted with 1.1 scoreless innings. Cam Robinson made it three straight scoreless outings with a scoreless seventh, and catcher Austin Bates entered to preserve an inning of work for the pitching staff, finessing his way through a 1-2-3 eighth for his third scoreless outing of the year. Southern Maryland’s final two runs came off reliever Trey Braithwaite who had entered the game on a five-appearance scoreless streak.
Notes: Teter (3-for-5) is now 22-for-47 (.468) with seven homers on a current 11-game hitting streak. He is 17-for-33 (.515) with six homers and 17 RBI in eight games in September. Rey scored twice, giving him 98 runs for the year; the Revs are already the first team in league history with three 100-run scorers and Rey would become the fourth. The 16 runs allowed are the most by the Revs since July 28 vs Lexington (18). The Revs allowed a season-high-tying six steals. Loftin stole two bags giving him 40 on the year and 100 in two years with Southern Maryland, breaking the previous franchise record of 98 held by Jeremy Owens.
