(August 5, 2019 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution saw their franchise record-tying eight-game winning streak halted, dropping their series opener to the Somerset Patriots, 8-5 on Monday evening at PeoplesBank Park.  The Revs fall to 18-6 in the Freedom Division second half standings, still 2.5 games ahead in first place and will continue their four-game home series on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Fresh off of a complete game victory last Wednesday against the Patriots, York right-hander Duke von Schamann worked a perfect 1-2-3 top of the first inning to start things off.

James Skelton worked a one-out walk to give York its first base runner in the bottom half of the first courtesy of Somerset starter Vince Molesky. Telvin Nash followed by crushing a two-run home run to left-center field to give York a 2-0 lead.

After von Schamann worked a pair of scoreless innings, the Revs added two more runs in the bottom of the third. Isaias Tejeda drew a one-out walk to reach base for the first time. The next batter, Carlos Franco grooved a home run to the right of the Arch Nemesis in left to push the lead to 4-0.

The Patriots scored their first runs of the ballgame in the top of the fourth. Edwin Espinal led things off with a walk. After von Schamann fought back to strike out Mike Ohlman, Rey Navarro doubled to put runners on second and third. Aflredo Rodriguez followed with a two-run double to left-center to score both runners and cut the lead to 4-2. Scott Kelly popped one up to short for out number two, but Yovan Gonzalez lined an RBI single up the middle to make it 4-3.

The Patriots took the lead at 5-4 in the top of the fifth on a pair of RBI singles from Navarro and Rodriguez.

The Revs tied things in their half of the fifth on a Melky Mesa RBI single to left to put the score at 5-5 heading into the sixth.

The Somerset offense stayed persistent in the top of the sixth inning as they added two more runs. With runners on first and second, Will Kengor lined an RBI double to right-center to score a run for a 6-5 lead and put two more runners in scoring position. Espinal followed with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 7-5.

Somerset tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh on an RBI double to left-center off the bat of Gonzalez to drive their lead to 8-5.

Luis Cruz worked a scoreless seventh, Zech Zinicola allowed just a two-out double to Skelton in a scoreless eighth, and Tyler Cloyd followed with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to record the save and end the Revs’ eight-game winning streak. Nate Roe (2-1) was in first out of the Patriots bullpen and picked up the victory.

Skelton’s eighth inning double is the 999th hit of his pro career.  York righty Ricky Schafer (1-0, 0.00) will face Somerset left-hander Rick Teasley (2-1, 4.36) in Tuesday’s game.  It is a WellSpan Sports Medicine Silver Slugger Tuesday.
