(August 30, 2026 – Staten Island, NY): Brian Rey belted his 20th home run of the season as part of a four-hit, five-RBI performance and Julian Costa tossed six shutout innings as the York Revolution blasted the Staten Island FerryHawks, 12-1 on Sunday afternoon in front of a record 6,418 fans at SIUH Community Park. The Revs take four of six in the series and have won nine of their last 12 overall, improving to 71-43 and 36-15 in the second half, holding a two-game lead for first place with 12 regular season games remaining.
York jumped ahead in the top of the first as Tomo Otosaka led off with an infield single and stole second and third, becoming the sixth in Revs history to 50 steals in a season. Rey got started on his huge day with a single to right, plating Otosaka for a 1-0 lead.
Hawks starter Christian Allegretti (1-4) kept the Revs off balance enough over the next couple of innings to keep it a 1-0 game. York had a pair of walks to start the second inning and a pair of singles before a double play in the third, unable to cash in either time.
Allegretti rolled another double play in the fourth, but the Revs put together a two-out rally to break through. Mike Rosario walked and Austin Bates singled to left to extend the inning. Otosaka whacked an infield single off Allegretti’s foot to load the bases, and Nick Dunn busted through with a two-run single to left for a 3-0 lead. Rey followed with a bloop RBI single to right as the three-run rally made it a 4-0 score.
The Revs exploded offensively with six runs in the fifth. Jackson Ross lit the fuse with a double to left and Shed Long Jr. walked. After a wild pitch, Ross scored on Drew Ramirez’ sac fly to deep right and Rosario followed by ripping an RBI double down the first base line. After Otosaka walked with two outs to keep the inning alive, Dunn ripped another base hit to left, driving in the third run of the inning. Rey provided the capper with a three-run blast to right as the lead ballooned to 10-0.
Having walked each of his first three times on the day, Long Jr. launched a homer to right center in the top of the sixth as his 14th of the year made it an 11-0 game.
Rosario (3-for-4) added one more run with an RBI single up the middle in the eighth.
Costa (9-2) allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out five over six shutout innings, polished off with a 1-2-3 sixth. After tossing five scoreless in a win to open the series on Tuesday night, he’ll carry a Revs’ season-best 11.1 inning scoreless streak into his next outing.
Tommy Ellisen retired the side in order in the seventh for his sixth scoreless outing in seven pro appearances and Trey Braithwaite fired a scoreless eighth as five of his six appearances with York have been scoreless.
Kennys Vargas lined the first pitch into the batters’ eye in center for his third homer of the series to break up the shutout bid in the bottom of the ninth, but Denny Bentley allowed no further damage in closing out the victory.
Notes: Otosaka’s 50-steal season is the sixth in Revs history and fourth in the past three years; he now has a record 96 steals in his Revs career. Dunn’s three RBI move him past Chris Nowak for second in Revs history with 109 on the season, trailing only Rey whose record now stands at 115 RBI which is also tied for eighth most in a season in league history (Keon Barnum, CWV 2024). Rey’s four-hit game is his fifth of the year while he totaled at least five RBI in a game for the third time. Rey has 163 hits on the season, moving from tied for fifth in a season in Revs history all the way to third all-time, just nine shy of the all-time record (James Shanks, 172 in 2010). Rey’s 32 RBI vs the FerryHawks establishes a new club record for most vs one opponent in a season, surpassing the previous mark of 28 held by three others. Rey (20) joins Dunn (24) and Jacob Teter (22) with 20 or more homers this season, marking the second time in franchise history the Revs have three 20-home run hitters in the same lineup (2019). Long Jr. leads the league with 11 homers in 25 games since July 30 and walked each of his other four trips to the plate, tying a franchise record for walks in a game; it’s the 17th time in Revs history a batter has walked four times and the second time this year as Devonte Brown did it on July 30 vs Lexington. Costa’s outing is his third scoreless start as a pro and the fifth time he’s allowed one run or fewer (ninth time in 13 starts allowing three earned runs or fewer). Costa is a combined 22-4 between his college and pro seasons this year; he improves to 5-0 with a 1.45 ERA in five starts vs Staten Island. York is 18-3 against the FerryHawks. York moves past both the 2024 Revs (859) and the 2025 Gastonia Ghost Peppers (861) for second most runs in a season in league history with 862, just 22 shy of the all-time record of 884 (Lexington 2021). York scored in double digits for the league record 36th time this season.
