(August 2, 2019 – New Britain, CT): The York Revolution extended their record road winning streak to 10 consecutive games, winning their sixth in-a-row overall with a 6-4 victory over the New Britain Bees on Friday night at New Britain Stadium. Now 5-0 on their current road trip, the Revs will go for a series win on Saturday evening.
Justin Trapp was a sparkplug out of the leadoff spot, reaching base all five times and going 3-for-3 with a two-run homer, two steals, and three runs scored.
Trapp’s big evening began on the game’s first pitch, lacing a single up the middle. After a steal of second, Trapp took third on a Telvin Nash single to left and scored as Isaias Tejeda drove his fourth sac fly in as many games on a deep shot to left-center for a 1-0 lead.
York added to the lead an inning later as James Skelton kept the frame alive with a two-out single to left-center and Trapp launched a two-run homer to left, his fourth of the season (all vs. New Britain).
The Revs came up big with two outs again in the fourth as Trapp drew a walk to keep the inning alive and Angelys Nina hammered a two-run homer to deep right, surging the lead to 5-0.
Revs starter Joe Jones opened with four scoreless innings in his Revs debut, denying the Bees by leaving a runner in scoring position in each inning. Melky Mesa came through with a diving play in left to rob Darren Ford, ending the fourth inning to keep the Bees off the board.
New Britain cracked the run column with two runs in the fifth. Jonathan Galvez singled up the middle to plate the first run and Mike Carp lined an RBI double to left-center, slashing the York lead to 5-2. Reliever Sam Burton entered and struck out Ryan Jackson looking before retiring Logan Moore on a grounder to first to prevent further damage.
The Bees loaded the bases against Burton the following inning on a bunt single by Zach Collier and a pair of walks. Lefty Cesar Cabral entered and induced a grounder toward the middle off the bat of Jared James, but a bad hop turned it into an RBI infield single, as the lead dwindled to 5-3. Cabral came back to induce a double play ball off the bat of Bijan Rademacher, but another run scored as the lead was trimmed to 5-4. Cabral retired Galvez on a grounder to third, leaving the tying run at third base.
Julio Perez took care of a scoreless seventh, again squelching a New Britain threat. Carp and Jackson led off the inning with singles, but the inning took a turn when pinch-runner Joe Poletsky was caught stealing by Skelton and tagged out in a rundown after a missed bunt attempt by Moore. Taking advantage of the first out, Perez promptly retired Moore on a pop up and struck out Collier looking to strand the tying run in scoring position again.
Josh Judy worked around a leadoff walk and a stolen base by Rando Moreno, retiring Rademacher on a grounder to second to finish a scoreless eighth with the tying run again left at third.
York created an insurance run in the ninth as Mesa (3-for-5) doubled to left-center and came home on a Ryan Dent RBI double to left.
Jameson McGrane slammed the door with a scoreless bottom of the ninth for his 13th save, allowing just a one-out single to pinch-hitter Jason Rogers. McGrane struck out Jackson looking and retired Moore on a ground out to second to seal the deal.
Notes: York’s 10-game road streak is the league’s longest since at least 2010, the earliest by which such records are available. The Revs improve to 16-5 in the second half, continuing to build on the best start to any half in team history. York improves to 50-40 overall, a season-best 10 games over .500. The Revs have won 13 of their last 15 series openers. York has won nine of its last 10 head-to-head vs. New Britain. Dent’s double gives him six extra-base hits in his last five games and his RBI is his seventh in the last three. Mesa is 7-for-10 with four doubles the last two nights. Nina has knocked in 12 runs in his last eight games. The Revs out-hit the Bees 14-12 and hit safely in seven of nine innings with base runners in eight of nine innings. New Britain had a hit in eight of nine frames and a base runner in every inning, but stranded 12 and went 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position. New Britain stranded a runner in scoring position in each of the first eight innings.
