(September 1, 2026 – York, Pa.): Jacob Teter slammed a dramatic go-ahead three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the York Revolution dropped the opener of their crucial six-game series against the Long Island Ducks, 4-3 on Tuesday night thanks to a ninth inning rally by the visitors. York (71-44, 36-16) leads the North Division by just one game with 11 to play in the regular season.
The Revs trailed 2-0 until the bottom of the eighth when Nick Dunn and Brian Rey set the table with infield singles. Teter teed off on an 0-2 offering from reliever Rafael Kelly, hammering a line drive three-run homer off the tents in right for a 3-2 lead, igniting an uproar from the home faithful.
Unfortunately for the Revs, that lead would not hold as the Ducks answered in the ninth. Anthony Garcia led off with a single to left against closer Cam Robinson (0-2) and Aaron Antonini reached on an infield single. A critical wild pitch advanced two pinch-runners, and Henry Kusiak and Jorge Bonifacio followed with sac flies to put the Ducks back on top.
Ramon Santos put an end to the contest with a scoreless bottom of the ninth for his 11th save.
Revs starter Zach Mort allowed just one run over six innings in a no-decision. He worked out of bases loaded trouble in the first and sixth innings, and allowed only a fourth inning RBI double by Alsander Womack. He escaped further trouble that inning when he struck out Jacob Robson and retired Wilmer Difo on a ground out to strand two others in scoring position.
Long Island tacked on a run in the seventh on Kusiak’s RBI single to left, but reliever Jordan Geber retired Womack on a fly out, causing the Ducks to leave the bases loaded for the third time as they stranded 13 runners on the night.
York was held to just two hits through the first six innings and had not recorded a hit since the second inning when Shed Long Jr. and Drew Ramirez singled to set the table in the bottom of the seventh. Ducks reliever Sal Romano escaped with a double play and a strike out, however, following Clark Candiotti (three innings), Leonardo Taveras (two innings), and Luis Gonzalez (one inning) in holding the Revs’ league-leading offense silent until the late innings.
Long Island has won six straight and is 14-3 since August 13 when they began what is now a five-game head-to-head winning streak against the Revs. York has gone just 9-9 since that date as their first place lead, which had peaked at 6.5 games, has been cut to just one.
Notes: Mort has allowed just one run in back-to-back starts and has gone at least six innings in all four of his outings. Tyler Thornton struck out two in a 1-2-3 eighth out of the Revs bullpen; over his last eight outings, he has allowed just four hits in eight scoreless innings with one walk and 19 strikeouts. Teter’s three-run homer, his 23rd of the year, increased his RBI total to 107 on the season matching the Revs’ previous club record set by Chris Nowak in 2012; he trails Rey (115) and Dunn (109) who have both surpassed that mark this season. York falls to 5-8 overall vs Long Island. The Revs have endured 18 last at-bat defeats this season; six of those have occurred over the course of their eight defeats against the Ducks including three on the current five-game head-to-head slide.
Next: The Revs will look to rebound on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. as RHP Nick Mikolajchak (4-1, 3.23) faces righty Tanner Jacobson (6-5, 4.92). It is Recovery Day, Bark in the Park, Winning Wednesday presented by PA Lottery, a $5 Wednesday, and the York Rescues Jersey Auction presented by York County SPCA.
