(August 22, 2018) — The York Revolution got their revenge over the Lancaster Barnstormers with a 14-2 win in the nightcap of Wednesday night’s doubleheader at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs earned a split after the Barnstormers won Game 1, 8-7. The Revs now lead the series two games to one.
In Game 1, Josh Bell hit a two-run home run to left-center off Revs starter Logan Williamson to give the Barnstormers a 2-0 lead in the first.
The Barnstormers scored five more runs off Williamson in the third to go up 7-0.
But the Revs answered for six runs in the bottom of the third off Barnstormers starter Brooks Hall, chasing him from the game after just two and two-thirds innings. Alexi Casilla started the scoring with an RBI single, Telvin Nash drew a bases-loaded walk, Welington Dotel added an RBI infield single, Jared Mitchell followed with an RBI single to right, and another run scored on a wild pitch to bring the Revs within one run at 7-6.
Ryan Casteel put Lancaster back up two runs with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the fourth, making it an 8-6 game.
Telvin Nash helped the Revs get that run back with a sac fly to right in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-7.
Revs left-hander Dustin Richardson took over for Williamson and threw two and two-thirds perfect innings with five strikeouts in his season debut, and struck out the side in the sixth.
Matt Reynolds retired the Revs in order in the seventh to preserve the one-run win for the Barnstormers and record his 23rd save.
Williamson (5-4) worked four and one-third innings, giving up eight runs on 12 hits and suffered the loss.
Kevin Munson (7-3) earned the win in relief for Lancaster, tossing one and one-third hitless innings.
Revs starter Joe Van Meter kicked off Game 2 by striking out the side in order in the top of the first.
Revs starter Joe Van Meter struck out the side to begin the nightcap, and the Revs gave Van Meter an early lead when Melky Mesa hit an RBI triple to the right field corner to put the Revs up 1-0 off Barnstormers starter Jonathan Albaladejo in the bottom of the first.
Ryan Dent mashed a leadoff triple to left-center in the second and Henry Castillo cracked a two-run homer to left-center, his first of the season. Travis Witherspoon followed with a walk, stole both second and third base, and scored on Casilla’s line-drive RBI single to left to extend the Revs’ lead to 4-0.
Mitchell drilled a two-run homer, his fifth of the season, just inside the right-field foul pole to make it a 6-0 game in the fourth inning.
Van Meter was cruising and sent the Barnstormers down in order in three of the first four innings and retired nine batters in a row at one point.
Michael Burgess got in on the homer party in the fifth inning with a leadoff blast to right-center, his 13th of the season, to give the Revs a 7-0 advantage.
The Revs weren’t done scoring though, as they added seven more runs in the sixth. Mesa smacked an RBI double off the wall in right, Nash hit an RBI infield single, Burgess added an RBI bloop single to left-center, and Castillo and Witherspoon hit back-to-back RBI singles. Tyler Clark then reached on an error by Lancaster reliever Garrett Granitz and two more runs scored. The Revs pounded out seven hits, including five in-a-row, and sent 11 men to the plate in the frame to go up 14-0.
Van Meter came back out for the seventh and KC Hobson broke up the shutout with a leadoff homer to right. Carlos Garcia added a two-out RBI double to right to make it a 14-2 game, but Van Meter finished off his first career complete game after 107 pitches to seal the Revs’ blowout win.
Van Meter (3-3) finished with seven strikeouts, one off his season-high, and allowed two runs on eight hits. He took a four-hit shutout into the seventh and did not walk a batter in his longest outing of the season.
Albaladejo (7-7) was charged with 12 runs (11 earned) on 14 hits in five and one-third innings and took the loss.
