(May 11th, 2018) — The York Revolution took an early lead and held on to beat the New Britain Bees 2-1 on Friday night at PeoplesBank Park. The victory is the Revs’ fourth straight win, which is good for the longest current streak in the Atlantic League. York will look to extend the streak as the series continues on Saturday night.
The Revs jumped on the board in the bottom of the second off Bees starter Mark Hamburger when Welington Dotel, who walked with one out, scored on a passed ball to give the Revs an early 1-0 lead.
In the third, Jared Mitchell walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on a wild pitch before Travis Witherspoon followed with a single, setting the table with runners at the corners and no outs. Alexi Casilla hit a sac fly to center field to extend the Revs’ lead to 2-0.
The Bees threatened in the top of the sixth after Darren Ford tripled with one out, but Revs starter Dominic Severino struck out the side and stranded Ford. Severino dominated all night and went six shutout innings, scattering four hits. He struck out four and walked none.
The Bees got on the board in the top of the seventh when Conor Bierfeldt singled on a shot off the Arch Nemesis to bring home Reid Brignac who walked to start the inning. The hit came off Luke Westphal, but the run (unearned due to a passed ball) was charged to Jake Ezell who started the inning and the at-bat to Brignac before being removed from the game after two pitches with an apparent injury.
Ricardo Gomez came on to pitch a scoreless top of the eighth to hold the Revs’ 2-1 lead, rolling a 3-6-1 double play to end the inning, erasing a leadoff single.
Junior Rincon pitched the ninth and retired the Bees in order to record his third save of the season. He had some help from Mitchell in right, who robbed Brignac of extra bases on a leaping grab on a fly ball to the right field corner for the second out. Rincon struck out Jonathan Galvez to end the game.
Severino (1-1) earned the win and Hamburger (1-1) suffered the loss.
The Revs (8-5) continue their three-game series with the Bees (3-10) Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. with right-hander Jay Gause (2-0, 1.93) facing Bees righty Zach Stewart (0-2, 3.00) The night features Post-Game Fireworks, a Revs T-Shirt Giveaway presented by The Law Firm of Dale E. Anstine, and is Soccer Night. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the York Revolution Ticket Office.

York has won back-to-back games by one run and is now 4-1 in one-run contests on the season.
