Revs’ Carbaugh Brings Home Fourth Award for Grounds Operations Excellence 

(September 29, 2026 – York, Pa.) — The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball has announced that the York Revolution has earned the league’s Ray Cipperly Award for Grounds Operations Excellence for the third consecutive season, recognizing Director of Grounds and Field Operations Chris Carbaugh and his grounds crew for their continued commitment to providing a superior playing environment at WellSpan Park. 

Named in honor of longtime Somerset Patriots Head Groundskeeper Ray Cipperly who passed away in 2015, the award is voted on by league members and recognizes the club that consistently provides an exceptional playing surface and game environment. 

Credit for the honor goes to Carbaugh, who oversees one of the busiest playing surfaces in the Atlantic League. In addition to preparing the field for York Revolution games, Carbaugh maintains the professional playing surface for dozens of other events throughout the year, including Penn State York baseball, local high school games, youth showcases and tournaments. 

Throughout the season, Carbaugh works closely with managers, players and umpires to ensure a safe and consistent playing surface. Despite another rainy 2026 season, Carbaugh and his staff maintained the integrity of the field and helped the Revolution successfully complete all 63 scheduled home games. That accomplishment required meticulous attention to detail, constant monitoring of weather radar, and a record number of tarp deployments to protect the playing surface and ensure the field was ready whenever it was needed. 

Carbaugh also brings a creative element to his work. The WellSpan Park field is regularly part of the game-day presentation through intricate mowing patterns and painted logos created to complement Revolution theme nights and special events. 

“Chris and his crew put in a tremendous amount of work to keep the field in great shape all season,” said York Revolution President and General Manager Ben Shipley. “We’re proud to see that work recognized by the league again this year.” 

Supporting Carbaugh throughout the season were Assistant Groundskeeper Colin Smith and Grounds Intern Kyle Mazzie. 

The Ray Cipperly Award was previously presented to York and Carbaugh in 2021, 2024, and 2025. With this year’s recognition, Carbaugh becomes a three-time consecutive winner of the award and joins Ray Cipperly as one of the award’s most decorated recipients.
